Lot 373: DRAWING BOARD
Lot 373: DRAWING BOARD

The Kevin Ryan trained DRAWING BOARD was the star attraction on the second day of the Tattersalls July Sale, selling for 115,000 guineas on a day when 149 lots were sold for 1,665,400 guineas at an average of 11,177 guineas and a median of 6,000 guineas.

DRAWING BOARD was consigned to the Tattersalls July Sale with a ‘Timeform’ rating of 95p following two wins and second from his only three starts, and attracted bids from the Qatari based Ibrahim Al-Malki, Kern Lillingston’s Alistair Donald and a Greek agent, bidding on behalf of a Russian client. However, the trio were usurped by the Bahrain-based pair of Jalil Al Mallah and Ramzi Hassan who secured the two-year-old son of PASTORAL PURSUITS for 115,000 guineas in what was a cosmopolitan affair fitting of the July Sale audience. Mallah and Hussain indicated that DRAWING BOARD was purchased on behalf of Qatari businessman Mubarak Al Noimi and would remain in training in England with Kevin Ryan for the time being before a possible transfer to the Middle East later in the year.

The Listed placed MOMENT OF WEAKNESS was a late addition to the Tattersalls July Sale catalogue and the son of BIG BAD BOB was knocked down to Californian based agent Jamie Lloyd for 100,000 guineas after he saw off the efforts of BBA Ireland’s Michael Donohoe. Lloyd purchased the gelding, who was rated 96 by ‘Timeform’, on behalf of Florida based investment banker Tony Grey who had been celebrating the win of his homebred filly Franny Freud who won the Grade 1 Prioress Stakes at Belmont on the weekend.

Early in the day the aforementioned Ibrahim Al-Malki secured the Denis Quinn trained CAPTAIN COKE for 80,000 guineas after seeing off the efforts of agent Geoffrey Howson. Working with former trainer Conrad Allen who had spent the last couple of years in Qatar working as a handicapper, as well as breeze up specialist Armando Duarte, Al-Malki secured the three-year-old colt on behalf of a Qatari based owner and indicated that the son of FATH would remain in the UK for the time being before a possible transfer later in the year.
