The Aidan O’Brien trained AUSTRALIA notched up a Classic double when winning the Group 1 Irish Derby, following on from his easy Derby victory at Epsom. Sent off at prohibitive odds of 1/8, the son of GALILEO out of the Oaks winner OUIJA BOARD never looked in danger of defeat with jockey Joseph O’Brien sitting motionless as he ran out a 2 ½ length winner.

AUSTRALIA was purchased at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 525,000 guineas by Demi O’Byrne from the draft of Stanley House Stud on behalf of breeder Lord Derby. The sale, which is also the source of Group 1 2,000 Guineas winner NIGHT OF THUNDER (32,000 guineas), is the only source of Classic winners in Britain and Ireland in 2014.

AUSTRALIA is now as short as 3/1 and a clear-cut favourite for the Group 1 Prix d’Arc de Triomphe.

It was a good day for graduates of Europe’s premier yearling sale with Group wins for FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH and GREGORIAN in the Group 3 Sapphire Stakes and Group 3 Criterion Stakes respectively.
