Havana Grey Colt Lands £125,000 Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Bonus

VANDEEK’s outstanding win in the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville was the highlight of a memorable day for Tattersalls Breeze Up Sales. The striking son of HAVANA GREY, a 625,000 guineas co-sale topper at the recent Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale, stamped himself as one of the best two-year-olds in Europe with his victory in a high class renewal of Deauville’s only Group 1 two-year-old contest, giving the Newmarket based Simon and Ed Crisford team their first Group 1 winner in the process.

Unbeaten in three starts including the Group 2 Richmond Stakes, VANDEEK, who was purchased by Anthony Stroud on behalf of KHK Racing from Glending Stables, also landed a lucrative £100,000 Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Bonus for his Group 1 win, while Glending Stables’ Roderick Kavanagh collected a £25,000 consignor’s bonus.  Bred by Kelly Thomas at her Maywood Stud in Wales, VANDEEK was originally purchased for 52,000 guineas by Childwickbury Stud at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale, then snapped up by Roderick Kavanagh for 42,000 guineas at the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale before headlining at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale.

Further Craven Breeze Up success was enjoyed by Highclere Thoroughbred Racing’s smart three-year-old sprinter BELIEVING whose win in the Group 3 Prix Texanita was backed up by a comfortable win in the Listed Flying Fillies’ Stakes at Pontefract. The daughter of MEHMAS was a 115,000 guineas purchase by John and Jake Warren's Highclere Agency from Kilminfoyle House Stud and trainer George Boughey identified the Group 1 British Champions Sprint at Ascot as her primary end of season target.

Further afield 80,000 guineas Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up purchase HARD ONE TO PLEASE produced a dominant performance to win Norway’s most prestigious and valuable race, the Group 3 Marit Sveaas Minnelop by three lengths. The four-year-old son of FAST COMPANY, trained by Annike Bye Hansen, was purchased by Walter Buick from Meadowview Stables at the 2021 Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up and could now aim for a repeat win in Scandinavia’s most valuable race, the Group 3 Stockholm Cup.

Completing the outstanding weekend for Tattersalls Breeze Up graduates was the Noel Meade trained LAYFAYETTE who took his career earnings past £350,000 when winning the Group 3 Royal Whip at the Curragh. The son of FRENCH NAVY was purchased by his trainer for €54,000 from San Antone Lodge at the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze Up Sale and has now won six Group and Listed races including last year’s Group 2 Mooresbridge Stakes.
