02/05/2008 RECORDS ACROSS THE BOARD AT TATTERSALLS GUINEAS BREEZE UP
There were plenty of fireworks during the one and only session at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale with five lots selling for six-figure sums and an EXCEED AND EXCEL filly selling for 470,000 guineas, the second highest price for a filly at a European breeze up sale. The sale, which is in only it’s second year, saw 80 lots sold for 3,833,000 guineas which makes it the second highest grossing breeze up sale in Europe in 2008, behind the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale. The turnover was up 80% on the 2007 figure whilst the average and median rose 71% and 30% to 47,913 guineas and 30,000 guineas respectively. (More)

SPORTING ART provided a timely reminder of the value to be found at the forthcoming Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale (May 1-2) when landing the $400,000 Grade 3 Calder Derby at Calder Racecourse on Saturday for trainer Christophe Clement and owners Jon and Sarah Kelly. 17/04/2008 RECORDS TUMBLE AT TATTERSALLS CRAVEN BREEZE UP
The fireworks continued on the second and final day of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale with records across the board and a top price of 540,000 guineas for a daughter of MR GREELEY. The second day saw 52 lots sold for 5,407,000 guineas, a rise of 48% on 2007 with the average rising 45% to 103,981 guineas and the median rising 21% to 67,500 guineas. Over the two days of the sale 116 lots were sold for 11,884,000 guineas, at an average of 102,448 guineas and a median of 70,000 guineas, all records for a European breeze up sale and rises of 35%, 40% and 27% respectively on 2007. A total of 16 lots sold for 200,000 guineas or more, compared to only 5 last year whilst no fewer than ten lots sold for 300,000 guineas or more. (More)

16/04/2008 SENSATIONAL OPENING DAY OF TATTERSALLS CRAVEN BREEZE UP
The Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale got off to a sensational start at Park Paddocks with a busy sales ring witnessing six lots that made 300,000 guineas or more and ten that realised 200,000 guineas or more, a figure made all the more remarkable by the fact that only five lots made that figure over the two days of last year’s sale. A total of 64 lots were sold for 6,477,000 guineas, a rise of 26% on 2007, with the average up 36% to 101,203 guineas and the median up 30% to 67,500 guineas. 06/12/2007 RECORD FIGURES AT TATTERSALLS DECEMBER SALES
The Tattersalls December Mare Sale concluded with 198 lots sold for 1,354,500 guineas at an average of 6,841 guineas and a median of 4,500 guineas taking the turnover for the four day sale to a record 69,613,500 guineas, at an average of 91,356 guineas, also a record, and a median of 23,000 guineas. Turnover for the complete December Sale topped 100 million guineas for only the second time, bettering last year’s figures marginally at 102,384,400 guineas. This also resulted in a record annual turnover of 244,835,900 guineas, up 5% from last year’s record breaking year. (More)

The Group 2 winner JEWEL IN THE SAND was the star turn on the third day of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale selling for 620,000 guineas, as 186 lots sold for 7,337,500 guineas, at an average of 39,449 guineas and a median of 28,000 guineas. OCEAN SILK headed an astonishing day at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale which saw three lots top three million guineas on the highest grossing day in European auction history surpassing the previous record, set at last year’s corresponding session, by an astonishing 21%. The turnover of 36,084,500 guineas for the 179 lots sold resulted in an average of 201,589 guineas, up 49 %, and a median of 85,000 guineas, up 47%. (More)

03/12/2007 SATWA QUEEN TOPS EXTRAORDINARY DAY AT TATTERSALLS DECEMBER MARE SALE
SATWA QUEEN headlined an extraordinary day on the opening session of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale with five fillies or mares selling for a million guineas or more and John Ferguson dominating proceeding’s. Most pundits agreed that this year’s renewal of the sale looked an outstanding one but few could have predicted the sparks that would fly on the opening day. A total of 199 lots sold for 24,722,000 guineas, a rise of 26% on last year’s opening session for what was the second highest grossing day in European auction history behind last year’s day two turnover at the same sale. Fillies dominated the final session of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale, accounting for three of the four lots to realise 200,000 guineas or more on a day which saw 153 lots sold for 6,775,000 guineas at an average of 44,281 guineas and a median of 28,500 guineas. Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale continued in robust fashion on the second day with progeny by NAYEF in great demand with three of the top four prices including a record-equalling 300,000 guinea filly and Shadwell Estates' Angus Gold continuing his prolific spending spree. Trade on the second day saw 242 yearlings sold for 11,531,000 guineas, taking the two day sale total to 473 lots sold for 23,907,500 guineas. That represents a rise of 18% on the equivalent two days of last year's Book 2, with the average and median rising 15% and 3% to 50,544 guineas and 35,000 guineas. (More)

Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale started in spectacular style with rises across the board and a record equalling top price of 300,000 guineas. A total of 231 lots were sold for 12,376,500 guineas, a rise of 21% on last year's opening day turnover. The average rose 15% to 53,578 guineas whilst the median rose 4% to 38,000 guineas. The world record price for a yearling filly was shattered at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale when the SADLER’S WELLS filly out of the IRISH RIVER mare BRIGID sold for 2,500,000 guineas on a day when three yearlings sold for 1,000,000 guineas or more. A total of 121 yearlings sold for 18,837,000 guineas, at an average of 155,678 guineas and a median of 90,000 guineas. This took the four day sale turnover to 64,922,000 guineas for the 510 lots sold, a rise of 18% on the 2006 figure. The average for the four days was 127,298 guineas and the median 80,000 guineas. The world record price for a yearling filly was shattered at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale when the SADLER’S WELLS filly out of the IRISH RIVER mare BRIGID sold for 2,500,000 guineas (£2,625,000 or $5,330,000). The Tattersalls July Sale concluded with 64 lots sold for 553,500 guineas at an average of 8,648 guineas and a median of 4,500 guineas. This took the four day total to 593 lots sold for 10,951,300 guineas at an average of 18,468 guineas and a median of 11,000 guineas. BBA Ireland finished as the leading purchaser with 16 lots for 577,000 guineas, ahead of Bobby O'Ryan with 11 lots for 538,500 guineas. The leading vendor was Darley whose 47 lots sold realised 1,391,800 guineas from Juddmonte Farms whose 33 lots realised 871,000 guineas. As is usual at horses in training sales at Tattersalls, the buying bench was very cosmopolitan with significant numbers set to head to Scandinavia, Greece and Qatar. (More)

A buoyant market at the Tattersalls February Sale got the year off to a promising start at Park Paddocks with a record price, and records for turnover, average and median. A total of 191 lots were sold for 2,268,000 guineas, a rise of 16% on last year's record breaking turnover, whilst the average rose 23% to 11,874 guineas and the median rose 31% to 5,500 guineas. The Tattersalls December Mare Sale finished with a flourish on the fourth and final day....... Turnover for the December Mare Sale rose a remarkable 42% to a record 66,235,800 guineas with the average rising 47% to a record 76,133 guineas and the median rising 36% to 30,000 guineas, also a record. This took the December Sales turnover to a staggering 100,630,900 guineas, up 36%. SPECIFICALLY, the dam of this year’s 1,000 Guineas winner SPECIOSA topped proceeding’s at 1,850,000 guineas on the third day of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale as trade continued in record-breaking fashion. A total of 210 lots were sold for 13,848,000 guineas at an average of 65,943 guineas and a median of 36,000 guineas, rises of 14%, 26% and 18% on the corresponding session last year. (More)

28/11/2006 WORLD RECORD 4.6 MILLION GUINEAS FOR MAGICAL ROMANCE
MAGICAL ROMANCE broke the world record for a broodmare when she was was sold for 4,600,000 guineas ($9.4m) on the second day of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale on the highest grossing day in European auction history. No fewer than four fillies or mares sold for 1 million guineas or more, with turnover for the day reaching a staggering 29,936,500 guineas for the 221 lots sold, 42% up on the previous auction record, set on this day last year. Amazingly, the turnover after two days now stands at 49,505,000 guineas, just under 3 million guineas ahead of last year's record breaking sale with 2 days remaining. The Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes winner SPINNING QUEEN set a new European record for a filly when she sold for 3,000,000 guineas on a stunning opening day to the Tattersalls December Mare Sale. A total of 207 lots were sold for a staggering 19,568,500 guineas, up 69% on last year’s opening session whilst the average and median rose 82% and 41% to 94,534 guineas and 45,000 guineas respectively. 25/11/2006 RECORDS SHATTERED AT TATTERSALLS DECEMBER FOAL SALE
The Tattersalls December Foal Sale concluded with another record breaking day taking the five day trade to new levels with records across the board. The fifth day saw 126 lots sold for 6,347,000 guineas, at an average of 50,373 guineas and a median of 35,000 guineas. Turnover was up marginally on the corresponding session last year albeit with 83 fewer lots on offer today whilst the average and median rose 42% and 59% respectively. Turnover for the five days was a record 28,861,600 guineas, a rise of 24% on last year’s record breaking sale. The Tattersalls December Foal Sale concluded with foals by OASIS DREAM again in demand and records for turnover and median. The final session saw 178 lots sold for 6,320,600 guineas, at an average of 35,509 guineas and a median of 22,000 guineas, taking the four day total to 809 lots sold for a record 23,295,600 guineas, a rise of 27% on last year's four day total. Trade stepped up massively on the third day of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale with colts by OASIS DREAM and DANSILI both making more than 200,000 guineas and a further 7 lots breaking the 100,000 guineas mark. A total of 169 lots were sold for 6,137,500 guineas, an increase of 8% on the corresponding session last year, albeit with 98 fewer lots on offer. The average and median both rose sharply, with the average up 45% to 36,317 guineas whilst the median rose 32% to 27,000 guineas. (More)

The Tattersalls December Foal Sale continued in robust fashion on the second day headed by a son of KYLLACHY as 173 lots were sold for 3,286,100 guineas, a rise of 56% on last year’s Wednesday session with the clearance rate at a hugely impressive 86%. The Tattersalls December Foal Sale started in solid fashion on the first of five days with a son of DANSILI topping proceeding’s at 58,000 guineas as 124 lots were sold for 1,077,000 guineas at an average of 8,685 guineas and a median of 5,000 guineas. It is the first time the December Foal Sale has been held over five days and a clearance rate of 70% represented a healthy start to Europe’s premier foal sale. (More)

Records came thick and fast on the opening day of the Tattersalls December Sale, with the solitary day of yearlings resulting in new benchmarks for turnover and average. A beautifully bred daughter of DALAKHANI led the way realising a record 700,000 guineas as 183 lots were sold for 5,533,500 guineas, at an average of 30,238 guineas and a median of 14,000 guineas. The turnover was up 28% and the average up 17% on last year's record levels whilst a total of 10 yearlings broke the six figure barrier, compared to eight in 2005. (More)
