NEW FREEDOM TOPS DAY ONE OF ERA SALE

New Freedom topped today’s inaugural Dubai International Racing Carnival Sale, part of the revamped two-day Emirates Racing Authority Horses in Training Sale, after going for AED 2.3million (around US$626,000).

The sprinter has run six times in the UAE, easily winning a handicap by six and a quarter lengths on his last start at the DIRC meeting on January 31.

The six-year-old gelding, who was bred in Brazil, where he also picked up a Listed race, was knocked down to Ali Saeed Belhab, who used to own the top-class Red Bishop, winner of the 1994 Hong Kong Vase.

Belhab also bought the second top lot, Kayak, purchased for AED460,000. The six-year-old won the Winter Racing Challenge Final for Mike De Kock (2000m) on January 3.

The sale is run by the ERA and Europe’s leading auction house Tattersalls, and finishes tomorrow with the ERA Horses in Training Sale which starts at 3pm.
