SCARLET EMPIRE, the three-parts-sister to last year’s Group 1 1,000 Guineas and Group 1 Coronation Stakes winner SKY LANTERN heads a quality catalogue for the 2014 Tattersalls February Sale. Europe’s premier midwinter sale takes place Thursday 6th February and the catalogue can now be viewed online at www.tattersalls.com. In total the catalogue numbers 301 lots and comprises broodmares, fillies/horses in training, weanlings and two-year-olds.

The eight-year-old mare SCARLET EMPIRE will be consigned from Dwayne and Wendyll Woods’ Brook Stud in foal to NEW APPROACH, sire of last season’s Oaks winner TALENT and the Derby runner-up LIBERTARIAN. Her first foal is the John Smith’s Cup winner DANCHAI who is now trained in Australia by leading trainer Chris Waller whilst her second foal by NEW APPROACH realised 320,000 guineas at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2011. SCARLET EMPIRE is one of four lots to be consigned from Brook Stud.

Leading owner/breeders Darley, Juddmonte Farms and Shadwell Estates all have significant consignments with 15 fillies and mares coming from both Darley and Juddmonte Farms respectively. Amongst the eyecatching lots from Darley is the eight-year-old mare DUNES QUEEN, a daughter of Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner QUEEN’S LOGIC and half-sister to Group 2 Lowther Stakes winner LADY OF THE DESERT. The Juddmonte team features two mares, both in foal to CACIQUE, sire of last year’s Group 1 Hong Kong Vase winner DOMINANT. Amongst the fillies is ENHARMONIC, the half sister to Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes winner DISTANT MUSIC.

Recent Group 1 winners LORD SHANAKILL, TOTAL GALLERY and DIM SUM are all out of mares purchased at the Tattersalls February Sale as is last season’s Group 3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes winner MIRACLE OF MEDINAH and mares in foal to proven top sires CACIQUE, CAPE CROSS, DUTCH ART, INTENSE FOCUS, KYLLACHY, MASTERCRAFTSMAN, MEDICEAN, NEW APPROACH, ROYAL APPLAUSE and SIR PERCY, as well as promising Group 1 winning young sires CANFORD CLIFFS, FOXWEDGE, PACO BOY, RIP VAN WINKLE and SEPOY, all look set to attract breeders from throughout Europe and further afield.

Pinhookers look equally well catered for with a diverse selection of weanlings by top sires including HIGH CHAPARRAL, KYLLACHY, MOUNT NELSON and ROCK OF GIBRALTAR as well as by first crop two year old sires CANFORD CLIFFS and EQUIANO.

The Tattersalls February Sale has also established a reputation as a consistent source of horses in training with last season’s US Listed winner STREET SECRET a 48,000 guineas February purchase and the Listed winner SWEET BABY JANE purchased for just 800 guineas in 2010. Amongst those horses in training that look certain to attract attention is the Michael Bell trained five-year-old SOVEREIGN DEBT, who is Group 1 placed and rated 106.

Commenting on the 2014 Tattersalls February Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;

“In its short history, the Tattersalls February Sale has quickly established itself as the equal of any other European midwinter sale and the 2014 renewal of the sale looks set to attract a wide cross section of domestic and international buyers. It is a good commercial catalogue catering for so many different requirements and as usual the sale will be preceded by the ever popular TBA Stallion Parade which starts at 10.00am followed immediately by the sale.”

The catalogue can be viewed online at www.tattersalls.com and is available from Tattersalls and all Tattersalls overseas representatives now.
