The catalogues for the 2014 Tattersalls July Sale can be viewed online at www.tattersalls.com and will be published on Monday, June 16. Numbering 757 lots, up from 736 last year, the sale comprises 660 horses and fillies in training and 96 broodmares. Taking place Wednesday 9th  - Friday 11th July, the three-day sale features large consignments from many of the world’s leading owner breeders including Juddmonte Farms, Darley and Shadwell Estates.

Long established as Europe’s premier midsummer sale, the Tattersalls July Sale is the source of the dams of five Group 1 winners in the last 15 months including Criterium International winner ECTOT (26,000 gns), the New Zealand Group 1 winning two-year-old VESPA (16,000 gns), Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner PRINCE GIBRALTAR (16,000 gns), Al Maktoum Challenge winner PRINCE BISHOP (62,000 gns) and the ill-fated six-time Group 1 winner ST NICHOLAS ABBEY (3,200 gns).

The 2014 renewal of the sale combines all the ingredients to attract the usual cosmopolitan cast of buyers. The largest consignment, numbering 55 lots, comes from Prince Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms and features fillies from the direct families of DANEHILL, HASILI, OASIS DREAM, WINCE, ZAFONIC and BATED BREATH. The Juddmonte draft also includes the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris runner-up LAST TRAIN, who looks a stallion prospect as a half-brother to the Group 1 winner POWERSCOURT and to KIND, the dam of the Champion FRANKEL and recent Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup winner NOBLE MISSION. The draft from Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Estates number 51 whilst Sheikh Mohamed’s Darley are represented by 101 entries, most consigned from their respective trainers.

There are a number of other eye-catching horses in training including the Group 3 placed TALES OF GRIMM, the eight-time winner and 101-rated BALLISTA, ten-time winner DE RIGUEUR rated 97, the ever consistent BEAR BEHIND from Tom Dascome’s Manor House Stables and the promising three-year-old colts INTENSICAL, ABBEY VILLAGE, WHALEWEIGH STATION, DAVIDS PARK and POOL HOUSE.

The 96 broodmares, up from 77 last year and all selling on day one of the three-day sale, boast plenty of attractive coverings by proven sires including BAHAMIAN BOUNTY, EXCEED AND EXCELL, SHOWCASING, HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR, DARK ANGEL, KODIAC, ROCK OF GIBRALTER and SHAMARDAL as well as Group 1 winning sires who are yet to have runners yet including CANFORD CLIFFS, CITYSCAPE, FARHH, POET’S VOICE and SEPOY.

Commenting on the 2014 Tattersalls July Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said:

“The Tattersalls July Sale has become firmly established as the leading mid-summer sale in Europe and that is no surprise given the success on the racecourse of late of the progeny of fillies and mares bought at the sale. No fewer than five Group 1 winners in the space of 15 months is testament to the quality on offer, and at an average price of less than 25,000 guineas, proof of the value available. There is plenty to entice both domestic and international buyers in this year’s July catalogue with major consignments from so many of Europe’s most successful owner/breeders and trainers who look set to provide buyers with the perfect blend of quality, diversity and value for money.”

The Tattersalls July Sale catalogue is available from Tattersalls and all Tattersalls overseas representatives from Monday, June 16. It can also be viewed online now at www.tattersalls.com and on the Tattersalls app.
