Tattersalls Ltd Completes Purchase Of Brightwells Bloodstock Sales
Tattersalls Ltd, Europe’s leading bloodstock auctioneers, has announced the completion of its purchase of the bloodstock auctioneering business of Brightwells Ltd after the transaction recently received a positive decision from the ‘Competition and Markets Authority’.
The former Brightwells Bloodstock division will be promoted as the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham and Tattersalls Ireland Ascot Sales and will be operated by the UK based team of Richard Botterill, Andrew Hickman, Matthew Hall and Dawn Thomas, under the management of Richard Pugh, who has been appointed as the Tattersalls Ireland Horses in Training Sales Director, having been a non-executive Director of Tattersalls Ireland since 2012.
Commenting on the acquisition, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;
“Terms were agreed between Tattersalls and Brightwells back in July and we are delighted that our acquisition of the bloodstock auctioneering business of Brightwells has now been approved by the ‘Competition and Markets Authority’. The recent sale at Ascot on October 6th was the last to be conducted by the existing Brightwells team with all subsequent sales at Ascot and Cheltenham to be held under the new Tattersalls Ireland banner. Our horses in training sales team at Tattersalls Ireland, led by Richard Pugh, are enormously looking forward to working with their former Brightwells counterparts to build upon the huge success that they have enjoyed in the National Hunt market in recent years.
Brightwells has been holding bloodstock sales at Cheltenham Racecourse since 2009 and Ascot Racecourse since 1990. In 2014 Brightwells held six sales at Cheltenham with a total sale ring turnover of almost £12.3 million and nine sales at Ascot for a total sale ring turnover of more than £2.2 million.
Expanding further on the acquisition, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony added;
“The team will be further strengthened by the addition of Matt Mitchell. Matt is enormously experienced and well respected and we are delighted to welcome him to the Tattersalls Ireland Board as a non - executive director. One of Ireland’s leading point to point jockeys Jamie Codd is also joining Tattersalls Ireland as our Horses in Training Sales Representative, while Bob Woodhouse will replicate the role he has played for Brightwells, as our representative in the North of England."
Tattersalls has also confirmed that the first sale to be conducted under the Tattersalls Ireland banner will be at Ascot on November 3rd followed by the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham November Sale on November 13th. Contact details for the team are listed below:
