Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 purchases NEWSPAPEROFRECORD and LINE OF DUTY made it a memorable double for graduates of Europe’s premier yearling sale when scoring authoritative Grade 1 victories on the opening day of the Breeders’ Cup meeting.

NEWSPAPEROFRECORD kicked things off when winning in jaw-dropping style in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. The daughter of LOPE DE VEGA was sent off a short favourite and didn’t disappoint backers, winning by an easy 6 ¾ lengths under jockey Irad Ortiz Jr.

The Chad Brown-trained filly was purchased at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale last year for 200,000 guineas. Brown, who was making his first visit to Tattersalls, bought the filly with agent Mike Ryan on behalf of Seth Klarman’s Klaravich Stables. NEWSPAPEROFRECORD, who is out of the Group winning HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR winning SUNDAY TIMES, was bred by the Times of Wigan Ltd and consigned to October Book 1 by Goldford Stud.

The Charlie Appleby-trained LINE OF DUTY made it an October Book 1 double for Tattersalls juveniles when landing the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. The Godolphin owned son of GALILEO came with a late sweeping run under William Buick to score, and then having to withstand a steward’s enquiry before being confirmed the winner.

LINE OF DUTY was purchased at last year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Book 1 for 400,000 guineas. The Triermore Stud-bred colt is out of the 1,000 Guineas runner-up JACQUELINE QUEST and was offered at Book 1 by New England Stud.

The next chance to buy a yearling at Tattersalls is at the December Yearling Sale on November 26. Catalogues are online now at www.tattersalls.com
