A colt by SEA THE STARS topped trade on the third day of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale at 450,000 guineas on a day that saw nine lots sell for 300,000 guineas or more. A total of 195 lots were sold for a total of 16,717,000 guineas at an average of 85,728 guineas and a median of 65,000 guineas.

Last year's top price of 450,000 guineas was matched by the SEA THE STARS half-brother to Group 3-placed MIXED INTENTION from the Hyland brothers' Oghill House Stud who was knocked down to Shadwell Estates’ Angus Gold. Shadwell have enjoyed great success with the progeny of SEA THE STARS this year courtesy of the Oaks and King George winner TAGHROODA.

Following the purchase Gold commented;

"I knew we'd have to work hard to buy him - he is a gorgeous horse. Of course, we've had a little bit of luck with Sea The Stars!

"This horse does not look such as stayer as some of them, probably more of a miler or a 1m2f horse. For us he was a stand out of the week. He'll head to Ireland now."

Gold also signed for the second highest price for the day when he went to 425,000 guineas to secure the LAWMAN filly out of the Group 1 Oaks placed HIGH HEELED. Consigned from James Wigan’s West Blagdon Stud, the close relation to the Irish 1,000 Guineas winner JUST THE JUDGE was secured by Gold after he saw off a determined effort by Willie and Elaine Carson.

"She is a lovely, lovely classy and quality filly," said Gold. "The mare and the second dam could both run and it is a wonderful filly's pedigree. She has come from a great nursery."

HIGH HEELED’s two-year-old DANSILI colt named DARK DEED was third on his only start but has already been talked of as a Derby candidate for next year.

DUBAWI has been cementing his place at the top table of stallions in Europe this year with no less than five individual Group 1 winners in 2014 and two of his foals filled the next two places in the top prices list.

Leading the way was the filly out of ELUSIVE SPARKLE, the half-sister to the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby winner STREET SENSE. She was knocked down to Darley’s John Ferguson for 400,000 guineas after he saw off Sheikh Fahad’s bloodstock manager David Redvers and American agent Justin Casse.

"He is a very good-moving Dubawi, from a family we know well - Street Sense did us proud," said Ferguson. "Elusive Sparkle is a talented mare and I am delighted to have bought this colt by Dubawi who continues to go from strength to strength."

Ferguson signed for the only other DUBAWI on offer - the colt out of the Group 1 placed PIVOTAL mare SILCA CHIAVE for 375,000 guineas.

The colt was consigned by Windmill Farm on behalf of the Aldridge Racing Partnership who also raced SILCA CHIAVE’s Group 1 winning sister SILCA’S SISTER and Group 1 placed sister GOLDEN SILCA.

The Tattersalls December Foal Sale continues on Saturday, November 29 at 9.30am with just under 200 foals sell to go under the hammer.
