Lot 72: SHAMARDAL - DREAM SHARED

The Stobart Group’s Andrew Tinkler bought the top lot on the opening day of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale when going to 210,000 guineas to secure the SHAMARDAL colt from Kilminfoyle House Stud. After a slow start, trade improved throughout the session with 46 lots sold for 3,587,500 guineas at an average of 77,989 guineas and a median of 71,000 guineas.

The SHAMARDAL colt out of FANTASTIC LIGHT mare DREAM SHARED was one of four lots bought by Tinkler who did the bidding himself alongside Brook Stud’s Dwayne Woods and trainer Michael Dods who will train the quartet. Tinkler, who had to withstand the effort of underbidder Richard Hannon Jnr, also purchased a DUBAWI colt earlier for 160,000 guineas. The sale represented a great result for the Kilminfoyle team who had purchased the colt for 48,000 guineas at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

Bloodstock agent John McCormack signed for the second top lot for the evening when the MEDAGLIA D’ORO colt out of the GONE WEST mare WESTERN DREAMER was knocked down to him for 200,000 guineas. McCormack had to resist the efforts of fellow Irishman Peter Doyle to secure the colt on behalf of an existing client. The sale represented a pleasing result for Yeomanstown Stud’s Gay O’Callaghan who had purchased the him for $90,000 as a yearling.

Turkish based owner Ibrahim Araci struck two lots later when landing the AZAMOUR colt out of the KENDOR mare VIVA MARIA for 180,000 guineas, after a spirited bidding duel with local agent Tony Nerses. The colt, who will go into training with Ed Dunlop, represented a pinhooking triumph for consignor Malcolm Bastard who bought him as a yearling for €70,000.

Blandford Bloodstock’s Tom Goff, fresh from celebrating the win of COORDINATED CUT in the £250,000 Tattersalls Timeform 3YO Trophy, who he purchased as a yearling, signed for the bay colt by MONSUN out of the SADLER’S WELLS mare FOOLISH ACT for 180,000 guineas. The colt, who was consigned from Willie Browne’s Mocklershill Stables, was knocked down to Goff after he saw off the efforts of French based trainer John Hammond.
