Trade on the second day of Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale continued to be strong with the highlight coming at the beginning of the sale when a colt by Dubawi achieved a record breaking price of 725,000 guineas when selling to John Ferguson.  The day saw a total of 227 lots sell for 15,340,500 guineas at an average of 67,579 guineas and a median of 50,000 guineas. There were a total of 45 lots that sold for 100,000 guineas or more whilst 7 lots sold for 200,000 guineas or above.

The fireworks on Day 2 arrived just before lunchtime when the only DUBAWI colt in the catalogue entered the ring and became the highest priced yearling ever sold at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale when bought by John Ferguson for 725,000 guineas.  Catalogued as Lot 875, the son of the German Group 3 winning mare GOATHEMALA by BLACK SAM BELLAMY is a half-sister to the German Listed winner GOIANA.

A crowded gangway turned out to take part in the bidding which saw Hong Kong based Willie Leung of Magus Equine take on Roger Varian until John Ferguson stepped in late with a bid of 550,000 guineas.  Varian persisted but so did Ferguson who eventually bought the son of Darley’s super sire for 725,000 guineas.

Ferguson said of his purchase:

"He is a beautiful mover, and a lovely horse. Dick O'Gorman saw him in the summer in Germany and loved him then - the horse has made great progress and has done so well physically.

The colt was consigned by Newsells Park Stud on behalf of Gestüt Fährhof and representative Julian Dollar commented:

"Gestüt Fährhof has done all the hard work, we just brought him to the sale - I am thrilled for them to get such a great price, and on top of the good sale they had in Book 1. It is a good farm and a great nursery and they deserve this success.”

Ballyphilip Stud’s Paul McCarten was celebrating after his filly by ZEBEDEE became the second highest price for the day when sold to Charlie Gordon-Watson for 280,000 guineas.  Out of the MUJTAHID mare HAWATTEF, she is a half-sister to Group 2 Celebration Mile winner KODI BEAR who was second in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes last year and who is third favourite for the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

Charlie Gordon-Watson was buying the filly on behalf of a client of trainer Michael Bell who commented:

"She is a particularly athletic and she vetted very well. She ticks all the boxes."

That price was matched late in the evening when Tony Nerses went head to head with the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Mark Richards in the battle to secure Lot 1089, the DUTCH ART colt consigned by Clairemont Stud. The son of the ELUSIVE QUALITY mare MISS QUALITY continued the fruitful fortnight for Martin and Lee Taylor whose Clairemont Stud is managed by Liam and Jenny Norris. The team sold a colt by OASIS DREAM last week for 750,000 guineas and the DUTCH ART colt also provided a pinhooking triumph, having been bought at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale last year for 140,000 guineas by Norris and William Huntingdon.

"I am delighted to get him," said Nerses. "He is a lovely individual - beautifully put together and looks the real deal. He will go back to Blue Diamond Stud from here, be broken in and we will decide on a trainer at Christmas."

Lot 869, the DARK ANGEL filly out of AIR EXPRESS mare GLAMOROUS AIR was sold to BBA Ireland for 260,000 guineas.  Consigned by Yeomanstown Stud and a daughter of their in form sire, the filly is a half-sister to Group 3 winner GLAMOROUS SPIRIT.

Adrian Nicoll of BBA Ireland commented:

"She is for a client of David Wachman's. The sire has been doing well and she is a lovely filly. The mare has done well."

Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale continues at 10am on Wednesday, October 14th.
