The first day of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale got off to a solid start with six lots making over 200,000 guineas, topped by the son of INVINCIBLE SPIRIT out of LOCH JIPP who was bought by Jamie McCalmont for 360,000 guineas.  A total of 37 lots were sold realising 3,547,500 guineas at an average of 95,878 guineas and a median of 60,000 guineas.

The top lot on Day 1 of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale was the INVINCIBLE SPIRIT colt out of Listed winning mare LOCH JIPP that made 360,000 guineas when selling to Jamie McCalmont.

Consigned by Oaks Farm Stables on behalf of Highbank Stud, the well-bred colt was previously sold at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 150,000 guineas.

McCalmont, who fended-off interest from eventual underbidder Stephen Hillen, as well as, John Ferguson commented:

"He is a powerful-looking colt, and he has not been fazed by the sale process at all.  He is a lovely colt bought for Coolmore, I don't know where he'll be trained."

Another colt by Irish National Stud resident INVINCIBLE SPIRIT to attract attention was Lot 55.  The two-year-old colt out of Listed winning mare MAMBO LIGHT was sold for 320,000 guineas to Rob Speers on behalf of Ibrahim Araci.

The bay colt, bought as yearling for 150,000 Euros by Mags O’Toole, was consigned by Oak Tree Farm.

Speers commented:

"He has size and strength and did a very professional breeze. It is a family we know very well and we were underbidder on his dual-winning three-year-old half-brother, who looks a very promising type.

"This horse has been bought with the longer term in mind and with such a stallion's pedigree we hope will develop into a real Classic prospect. He won't make his debut until later in the year and over 7f.

"This sale has been lucky for Mr Araci - he bought Native Khan and Chigun here and both became proper Group horses."

Earlier in the evening, the colt by ZOFFANY out of FLYING FLAG got the sale off to a strong start when selling to Stephen Hillen, standing with trainer Kevin Ryan, for 320,000 guineas.

Catalogued as Lot 17, the son of last year’s first season sire is a half-brother to multiple Listed winning filly in Italy LAGUNA SALUDA and was purchased for 175,000 guineas at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by consignor Grove Stud.

Ryan said of his purchase:

"He is for Mr Rahman, who owns the winner I had at Newmarket today Teruntum Star as well as a number of other horses with me.

"The horse has been bought with a three-year-old career in mind - he will have holiday now and will come back in for a couple of runs later in the year.

"To my mind he is the nicest horse here and we just loved him - he is a fantastic individual, and every time we went to see him in the yard, he was just the same with a lovely laid-back attitude."

The fourth highest lot on Day 1 of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale was by Kentucky-based sire MORE THAN READY.  Consigned by Mocklershill, the colt out of Listed winning STREET CRY mare LIMONAR made 220,000 guineas when selling to trainer Simon Crisford on behalf of Shadwell.

The Mocklershill consigned colt attracted plenty of interest including underbidder Alex Elliot who was standing with trainer George Scott.

Crisford said:

"He breezed very well and I liked him a lot.  He has been bought for Shadwell and hopefully he will take us to all the fancy races and the fancy places!

"He is by a good stallion, out of a capable mare and More Than Ready with Street Cry goes well. It is a young family."

The second day of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale continues on Wednesday 13th April at 6pm.
