Outstanding catalogue for Europe’s Premier Yearling Sale
18 Yearlings from First Crop of Frankel

The catalogue for Book 1 of the 2015 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, which takes place Tuesday 6th October - Thursday 8th October, is now online and can be viewed at www.tattersalls.com. The catalogue for Europe's premier yearling sale numbers 513 lots, all of which are eligible for the all new £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus.

The flagship Tattersalls sale has attracted a truly outstanding collection of the finest yearlings to be found anywhere in the world, including 18 yearlings from the eagerly awaited first crop of the global superstar FRANKEL - more than have been catalogued for all other yearling sales combined.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;

“The next chapter of the FRANKEL legend is set to begin and we are delighted to have 18 outstanding yearlings from his first crop in Europe’s premier yearling sale. They are an impressive bunch both physically and on pedigree with 15 of them either out of Group and Listed winning mares or half brothers or sisters to Group and Listed winners.”

In addition, the catalogue features own or half brothers and sisters to 37 Group 1 and Classic winners and 248 Group/Listed winners. Amongst the siblings to Classic and Group 1 winners are own or half brothers to 2014 and 2015 stars AL KAZEEM, PRINCE BISHOP, RIZEENA and SEAL OF APPROVAL, as well as AQLAAM, ARCANO, AUSSIE RULES, CHINESE WHITE, EQUIANO, HARBINGER, HAVANA GOLD, SHARETA and Oaks winner WAS as well as own or half sisters to G FORCE, COLOUR VISION, SOLE POWER and SPINNING QUEEN as well as this year’s 1,000 Guineas & Nassau Stakes winner LEGATISSIMO.

Outstanding Group 1 and Classic winning mares with yearlings catalogued include proven Group and Listed producers BIANCA NERA, BRISEIDA, DAR RE MI, FRAULEIN, KINNAIRD, LUNA WELLS, MAJESTIC ROI, NIGHTIME, REBELLINE and SAOIRE, as well as multiple Group 1 winner IZZI TOP and 2012 1000 Guineas winner HOMECOMING QUEEN, both of whom have their first foals catalogued.

All of the current top 20 active sires standing in Britain and Ireland are well represented with the two phenomenal half brothers GALILEO and SEA THE STARS leading the way with 43 yearlings catalogued between them. Six time Champion sire GALILEO has 23 yearlings catalogued including the own or half brothers to Classic/Group 1 winners HARBINGER, WAS and WROTE and the half sisters to Classic/Group 1 winners CRUSADE and ELUSIVE WAVE. Numerically, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT leads the way amongst the top 20 active sires with 26 yearlings catalogued, followed by EXCEED AND EXCEL with 25, OASIS DREAM with 20, SHAMARDAL with 15, DARK ANGEL and FASTNET ROCK both with 14, PIVOTAL and DUBAWI with 13 apiece and DANSILI with 11. In total the top 20 active sires have 262 yearlings catalogued between them with the current top 10 accounting for a massive 153 yearlings.

Devotees of first crop yearling sires will be spoilt for choice with 20 freshmen represented by a total of 102 yearlings. Appropriately, three champions head the list with multiple Group 1 winner NATHANIEL matching FRANKEL’s 18 yearlings and Australian superstar SEPOY with 16 from his first northern hemisphere crop.

Overseas based sires traditionally play a prominent role at Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale and proven Group/Grade 1 USA based sires DISTORTED HUMOR, ELUSIVE QUALITY, EXCHANGE RATE, KITTEN’S JOY, LEMON DROP KID, SCAT DADDY, SMART STRIKE, STREET CRY and WAR FRONT all feature prominently alongside top French based sires KENDARGENT, MAKFI, MOTIVATOR and SIYOUNI. The first northern hemisphere crop of REDOUTE’S CHOICE looks set to add further international appeal and the Australian champion sire has eight well bred yearlings catalogued.

As last year the largest consignments from Britain and Ireland come from Highclere Stud and The Castlebridge Consignment with 34 and 28 yearlings respectively. Last year’s sale topping consignor Ashbrittle Stud will be hoping to repeat last year’s spectacular 2.6 million guineas triumph with an identical consignment of one – a GALILEO half brother to champion HARBINGER.

Commenting on the catalogue for Book 1 of the 2015 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;

“We have a catalogue of outstanding quality for Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. As ever, Book 1 is the best sale to buy a European Classic winner, and with the introduction of the £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus, it is also the only chance for an owner to buy a horse which could pay for a year’s training fees by winning a maiden. The response to the new ‘Book 1 Bonus’ has been fantastic and for owners to have the prospect of earning prize money of £30,000 or more for winning any of around 300 British and Irish two year old maidens is hugely enticing. Europe’s premier yearling sale has all the ingredients to attract buyers at all levels of the market and we look forward to them being handsomely rewarded with unprecedented prize money.”
