The highest price of the day was the 105,000 guineas paid for the three year old four time winning gelding ESCAYOLA. Consigned from William Haggas' Somerville Lodge Stables in Newmarket, the son of REVOQUE's four victories have come in his last five starts including a comfortable last start win in a competitive two mile handicap at Goodwood. Purchased by Nottinghamshire based Terry Williamson on behalf of owner Margaret Findlay, future plans for the gelding remain undecided but a future over hurdles looks likely in the long term.
The other lot to break the six figure barrier was the Lot 70, MIDDLEMARCH who sold for 100,000 guineas to Scottish based trainer Jim Goldie. Consigned from Aidan O'Brien's Ballydoyle Stables, the three year old colt had won his second race at the Curragh on Saturday, following his unplaced run in the Group 1 Champion Stakes at Newmarket behind RAKTI and was placed in the Group 3 Desmond Stakes as a two year old. A son of GRAND LODGE out of the NASHWAN mare BLANCHE DUBOIS, MIDDLEMARCH comes from the same family as Irish 2000 Guineas winner INDIAN HAVEN and Group 1 winner COUNT DUBOIS. Underbidder on the colt was bloodstock agent Stephen Hillen.
