The top priced lot for both the day and the sale was the 230,000 guineas for the two year old colt DIOSYPROS BLUE. Consigned from Jamie Osborne's Kingsdown Stables, the three time winning son of BLUEBIRD had finished second in the Group 3 Sirenia Stakes and attracted initial interest from bloodstock agents Amanda Skiffington, Cormac McCormack and the locally based Linda Tate. However it was jockey John Egan who eventually prevailed to secure the highly rated colt on behalf of overseas clients. Egan has enjoyed one of his best season's in the saddle highlighted by a victory in the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas aboard INDIAN HAVEN, who had been purchased at this sale only a year ago for 95,000 guineas.

LOT 1039: DIOSYPROS BLUE

Purchased by Piero Co. Ltd for 230,000 guineas

Two year old filly ANTEDILUVIAN was always going to be highly sought after following her impressive 6 length victory at Redcar on her first and only start and so it proved with the daughter of AIR EXPRESS out of the DOWSING mare DIVINA MIA selling for 150,000 guineas. The James Given trained two year old filly saw initial interest from local trainer William Jarvis as well as Cheveley Park Stud's John Marsh, before Kern/Lillingston's Alastair Donald entered the fray. Donald eventually outlasted his rivals to secure the classy filly and indicated that she would stay in training in England, although with whom remained unclear. ANTEDILUVIAN comes from the family of dual Derby winner SHIRLEY HEIGHTS and is by the ill-fated sire AIR EXPRESS, who has been well represented this year by the top class three year old filly AIRWAVE.

At the conclusion of the 2003 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;

“October 2003 has been a month to remember after four phenomenal Tattersalls sales in the last five weeks. The record books were rewritten at all three of our yearling sales and we have just experienced similarly spectacular demand for the horses in training.

“Last year’s Autumn Horses in Training Sale was a record breaker but short lived with new heights in almost every category this week. The average price was in excess of 20,000 guineas, a rise of 25%, turnover has soared 28% breaking the 15,000,000 guineas barrier for the first time, and we have had a massive 29 lots making 100,000 guineas or more compared with 10 last year. As ever, withdrawals have regrettably been numerous, but this week’s vendors have been richly rewarded for their faith not only in the Sale but also in the process of public auction.

“The global appeal of the Autumn Horses in Training Sale lies in its ability to satisfy so many different requirements, and we have seen unprecedented demand from all quarters. The number of overseas buyers at Park Paddocks this week has been little short of extraordinary, and the domestic British and Irish demand has also been stronger than ever with the National Hunt fraternity in particular making a massive contribution. Demand has been driven not only by a strong catalogue but also by racecourse results which have included 2003 Classic winner INDIAN HAVEN who was bought at last year’s sale, Group and Graded Stakes winners throughout the world, and top class jumping performers in Britain and Ireland.”
