The three year old CADEAUX GENEREUX colt KEHAAR equalled the record price at the sale when he realised 525,000 guineas, the same as FIREBREAK in 2001. A winner of three of his four starts to date and more than £60,000 in prize money, KEHAAR won the seven furlong £70,000 totejackpot On Saturday Stakes at Ascot last month resulting in an official rating of 100 and a 'Timeform' rating of 108p. Consigned from Mikael Magnusson's Old Manor Stables on behalf of East Wind Racing, KEHAAR saw initial interest from Irish bloodstock agent Hugo Merry along with Newmarket based agent Dwayne Woods, accompanied by his brother, the Hong Kong based trainer Sean Woods. The pair went head to head as the price soared past 300,000 guineas, before Narvick International's Emmanuel De Seroux and Godolphin representative John Ferguson both entered the fray. As bidding raced towards the previous record, De Seroux bid 500,000 guineas before Ferguson answered with the winning bid of 525,000 guineas. Ferguson, who also purchased FIREBREAK on behalf of Godolphin, indicated that KEHAAR would join the same stable, and hopes will be high that he can emulate FIREBREAK who has subsequently won the Group 2 $1,000,0000 Godolphin Mile twice and almost £1,000,000 in prizemoney since his 2001 sale. KEHAAR's sale represented a major success for owner/trainer Magnusson, who purchased the colt for 170,000 guineas at the 2002 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from Watership Down Stud.

At the conclusion of the 2004 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;

“ Last year’s Autumn Horses in Training Sale produced phenomenal figures, with turnover up nearly 30%, and the average up 25%. This looked to be a tough act to follow, but this has been a very strong sale with record figures across the board for the third consecutive year.

“ Obviously the individual highlight was Mikael Magnusson’s smashing colt KEHAAR, who equalled the sale record of 525,000 guineas set by FIREBREAK, but we have also had more lots sell for 200,000 guineas and above than ever before, and fierce competition from start to finish between the huge numbers of overseas buyers and the British and Irish buyers both Flat and National Hunt.

“ Only ten years ago the Autumn Horses in Training Sale had turnover less than 7,000,000 guineas and an average below 9,000 guineas, but over the last four days we have sold nearly 900 horses for in excess of 18,000,000 guineas at an average of well over 20,000 guineas. The real feature of the sale has been the consistency of the demand at every level of the market, top, middle and bottom. There have been no holes, and it is encouraging for owners that they can bring their horses in training to this sale and receive such good returns. Owners can have confidence that there is a good solid market for their horses which can only encourage continued participation in the sport.”
