KERASHAN, a three-year-old son of SINNDAR, owned by The Aga Khan and consigned from Sir Michael Stoute's Freemason Lodge Stables in Newmarket, entered a packed sale ring late in the evening. Interest in the two-time winner who was rated 107 by 'Timeform' came initially from Kern/Lillington's Alastair Donald before Dublin-based bloodstock agent John McCormack and Newmarket trainer David Loder locked horns, sending the price skyward with Loder victorious at 300,000 guineas.
The consignment from Freemason Lodge was in high demand as only nine lots earlier STREAM OF GOLD was sold to Anthony Stroud Bloodstock's Richard Venn for 220,000 guineas. The four-year-old colt, owned by Ballymacoll Stud, won the prestigious Lincoln Handicap in March and was fourth in the Group 3 Select Stakes at Goodwood, beaten only 3 1/4 lengths behind subsequent Group 1 Champion Stakes victor DAVID JUNIOR on his last start. Venn secured the son of RAINBOW QUEST, an own brother to multiple Group 1 winner SPECTRUM, after resisting the efforts of Saudi Arabian owner Khalid Al Qahtani and Cheveley Park Stud's General Manager Chris Richardson.
The four-year-old colt MOSS VALE, three times a Listed winner and placed six times in Group 2 and 3 events, always looked to be one of the highlights of the sale and did not disappoint when selling for 260,000 guineas to the bid of Irish bloodstock agent Bobby O'Ryan. The son of SHINKO FOREST, owned in partnership by Cheveley Park Stud and John Grant, was consigned from Barry Hills' Faringdon Place Stables and it was Cheveley Park Stud's General Manager Chris Richardson who was underbidder to Bobby O'Ryan. O'Ryan revealed that MOSS VALE was purchased on behalf of Lady O'Reilly and would go into training with Dandy Nicholls at his Yorkshire base.
Earlier in the day a trio of colts from Richard Hannon's East Everleigh Stables broke the six figure barrier in the space of 10 minutes. The first was KINGS QUAY, a two-time Listed winning three-year-old by MONTJEU who was purchased by Yorkshire-based trainer John Quinn for 110,000 guineas as a jumping prospect. Two lots later the two-year-old ORPEN colt GENRE was sold for 140,000 guineas to Kern/Lillingston Association's Alistair Donald. The colt had won his previous two starts at Doncaster and Windsor by an aggregate of 12 lengths and was purchased for United States based owner David Mueller and will join Californian-based Englishman Ben Cecil at his Santa Anita training base. The following lot GRAMM, a winner at Newmarket on October 13, was purchased by London Thoroughbred Services' James Wigan for 110,000 guineas to join Newmarket trainer Luca Cumani at his Bedford House Stables.
