SHUJOON, the three-year-old colt by SAKHEE out of the BARATHEA mare MARIE DE BLOIS, has recorded four victories from his nine starts which have included two wins at Listed level and a third in the Group 2 Prix Hocquart at Longchamp for trainer Andre Fabre, earning a ‘Timeform’ rating of 111. Robbie Hennessy, whose father William owns Champion Hurdle winner SUBLIMITY, purchased at this sale for 32,000 guineas in 2004, was stood alongside that horses trainer John Carr and they made much of the running to secure the colt, along with Emerald Bloodstock’s Brendan Gallagher. Just when Hennessy’s perseverence looked to have paid off, local agent Richard O’Gorman trumped the pair with a single successful bid of 240,000 guineas on behalf of Saudi Arabian interests.
DUBAI TIME, the two-year-old colt by DUBAI DESTINATION out of the GREEN DESERT mare TIME SAVED, has a pedigree to die for, being a half-brother to the Group 2 Royal Ascot winner PLEA BARGAIN and a grandson of the Champion mare TIME CHARTER. The Kevin Ryan trained two-year-old, a 37,000 guineas graduate of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, was consigned to the sale from Ryan’s Hambleton Lodge Stables with a ‘Timeform’ rating of 105 following his second in the Group 3 Prix des Chenes at Longchamp last month. The early battle to secure DUBAI TIME saw bids from Irish agent Robin O’Ryan and Hong Kong based agent Willie Leung, before McKeever St Lawrence’s Philip Johnston and Kern/Lillingston’s Alistair Donald took up the running with the latter being the last standing when the price reached 220,000 guineas. Donald indicated that DUBAI TIME was purchased on behalf of Hong Kong based trainer David Hall.
Another colt heading overseas is MR KEPPEL, the two-year-old son of ROYAL APPLAUSE out of the NIGHT SHIFT mare OH HEBE. The half-brother to the Grade 2 Oak Tree Derby winner DEVIOUS BOY was purchased by London based Jamie McCalmont for 155,000 guineas on behalf of Tommy Town Thoroughbreds and will join Californian trainer Doug O’Neill. Consigned from Jamie Osborne’s Kingsdown Stables on behalf of Martin Myers’ Mountgrange Stud, MR KEPPEL put together a three run winning streak before finishing a close-up seventh in the Listed Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar at his most recent racecourse appearance. Tommy Town Thoroughbreds and O’Neill have enjoyed success with sons of ROYAL APPLAUSE before, having raced last year’s Grade 3 winner WHATSTHESCRIPT.
