Expectations were high for the foals consigned by Watership Down Stud as part of the dispersal of Wafic Said's racing and breeding interests, and none more so than the SINGSPIEL colt out of Champion mare BOSRA SHAM. The half brother to this year's impressive United States two year old winner ROSBERG saw initial interest from Lodge Park Stud's Seamus Burns and Blandford Bloodstock's Tom Goff before Isami Nakamura, owner of KI Farm in Hokkaido, Japan signalled his intent. Seated with Ritto based trainer Kenji Yamauchi, Nakamura outlasted all opposition with the exception of Darley's John Ferguson who made the winning bid of 525,000 guineas. The price was the second highest for a colt foal in Europe behind the world record of 2,500,000 guineas, paid for the CAERLEON own brother to GENEROUS in 1997.
Only two lots earlier, another of the Addison Racing dispersal, the GENEROUS filly out of COME ON ROSI sold for 220,000 guineas to the bid of Andrew Christou, principal of Winterbeck Manor Farm. The own sister to Group winner GENEROUS ROSI and Listed winner GENEROUS LIBRA was the second highest price of the foals from Addison Racing which realised 837,000 guineas for the seven lots offered. The dispersal continues next week at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale with the likely highlights being Oaks winner LADY CARLA and AUNTY ROSE, the CAERLEON daughter of COME ON ROSI amongst the mares and Group and Listed winning half sisters TANTE ROSE and BAY TREE amongst the fillies in training.
The second highest price for the day, and highest priced filly, was the 340,000 guineas paid for the GREEN DESERT foal out of the Australian Group 3 winning KAAPTIVE EDITION mare FOREST EXPRESS. Offered by Bill Dwan's Castlebridge Consignment, the filly was purchased by London based bloodstock agent Charlie Gordon-Watson on behalf of an English owner with Australian connections and will go into training with Jeremy Noseda after boarding at Lord and Lady Lloyd-Webber's Watership Down Stud. The connections of FOREST EXPRESS, who is to be offered next week in foal to PIVOTAL at the December Mare Sale, have had a profitable few weeks with the mare's yearling colt by MACHIAVELLIAN realising 140,000 guineas at the Tattersalls October Part 1 Yearling Sale when purchased by John Ferguson.
The first foals by dual Derby winner GALILEO have been very well received this week and the colt out of the Stakes placed mare CHILD PRODIGY proved to be the highlight when knocked down to Irish pinhooker Timmy Hyde for 280,000 guineas. Consigned from Paddy Kelly's Ballybin Stud in Ireland, the colt attracted initial interest from Irish bloodstock agent Brian Grassick, Frenchman Eric Puerari and Englishman Charlie Gordon-Watson before Darley frontman John Ferguson and Hyde locked horns. Hyde revealed that the colt would be re-offered at next year's yearling sales.
