TATTERSALLS DECEMBER YEARLING SALE CONTINUES RECORD RUN

Following on from the record breaking Houghton and October Yearling Sales, Parts 1 & 2, the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale completed the clean sweep for yearling sales at Tattersalls in 2004, with new records for turnover, average and median. A total of 161 yearlings were sold for 3,310,200 guineas, at an average of 20,560 guineas and a median of 14,000 guineas which represented a rise of 1% in turnover, 2% in average and a massive 56% in median over last year's record breaking figures. Demand was strong from start to finish with overseas buyers making their presence felt including parties from Russia, Greece and Spain as well as from the traditional markets of France, Germany and Italy.

The top priced lot for the day was the MACHIAVELLIAN colt out of the Listed placed EL GRAN SENOR mare JUMILLA who realised 130,000 guineas. The half brother to two winners was offered from Roy & Belinda Strudwick's Ballygallon Stud in Ireland and initial interest came from Italian based bloodstock agent Marco Bozzi. Newmarket based bloodstock agent John Warren sooned joined the fray, but he was unable to hold off the efforts of Darley's John Ferguson who made the winning bid for the colt.

LOT 200: MACHIAVELLIAN - JUMILLA

Purchased by John Ferguson Bloodstock for 130,000 gns

Ferguson also signed the docket for the second highest priced lot of the day when he went to 120,000 guineas to secure the bay filly by FASLIYEV out of the Group 3 winning GENERAL ASSEMBLY mare GO HONEY GO. The filly is a half sister to the Listed winning pair GAILY FLASH and SAGARMATHA and out of a half-sister to the Listed winner THE CARETAKER, dam of four time Group 1 winner MUTAFAWEQ and recent Grade 1 winner DIMITROVA. Consigned from Joe Hernon's Castletown Stud in Ireland. Bloodstock agents Amanda Skiffington and Gill Richardson made the early running before Irish based agent Brian Grassick entered proceeding's, but he too was to end up unsuccessful with Ferguson making the winning bid.
