Beechgrove Stud's Bumble Mitchell will be hoping that history repeats itself after Larry Stratton purchased lot 474, the ROYAL APPLAUSE colt out of the TOPSIDER mare WAFT for 44,000 guineas. Stratton purchased the colt on behalf of a syndicate headed by Mitchell who tasted great success at Part 1 of this year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale when they sold another son of ROYAL APPLAUSE for 145,000 guineas, having purchased him at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale last year for 50,000 guineas. Newmarket-based Stratton secured the colt after a dual with Yeomanstown Stud's Gay O'Callaghan. Consigned by Charlie Mason's Silfield Bloodstock, the colt is a half-brother to this year's two-time winning two-year-old DICTION.

The second highest price for the day was the 35,000 guineas paid for lot 376, the son of first season stallion TOBOUGG. Consigned from The Castlebridge Consignment, the colt out of the WOLFHOUND mare SEEKING UTOPIA was knocked down to Penmarric Stud's Michael English after he saw off numerous bidders including Newmarket based agent John Troy. First crop sires invariably attracts their fair share of attention from the pinhookers and TOBOUGG'S first foals have been well recieved to date. The son of BARATHEA, who won the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes and Group 1 Prix Salamandre as a two-year-old, stands at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket at a fee of £5,000.
