AIRWAVE became the only horse to beat subsequent Classic and multiple Group 1 winner RUSSIAN RHYTHM as a two year old when she triumphed in the 2002 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket. The Henry Candy trained filly proved herself one of the best sprinters of her generation with a spectacular victory in the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Sandown as well as placing's in the Golden Jubilee Stakes, July Cup and Haydock Sprint Cup, all Group 1 events. Bidding for the daughter of the ill-fated AIR EXPRESS began in earnest in the packed auditorium and quickly raced to 300,000 guineas with Lodge Park Stud's Seamus Burns and Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farm in Japan exchanging bids. Burns' bid of 500,000 guineas was countered by Yoshida who bid 525,000 guineas but the pair were usurped when the BBA Ireland's Adrian Nicoll made the winning bid of 550,000 guineas with his one and only bid. Nicoll indicated that the four year old was purchased for Coolmore Stud principal John Magnier.

The second highest price for the day was the 280,000 guineas given for the four year old WOLFHOUND filly AMAZON BEAUTY who was consigned by agent Ted Voute on behalf of Alec Wildenstein's Dayton Investments. The filly, out of the Listed winning LEAR FAN mare ASTORG from the family of the great ALLEZ FRANCE, was trained in Chantilly by Elie Lellouche for whom she registered two victories and a third in the Group 3 Prix de Seine-et-Oise at Maisons-Laffitte. The filly, who is rated 103 by 'Timeform' was knocked down to locally based bloodstock agent Anthony Stroud after he outbid Ennistown Stud's Ruairi O'Coileann.

STARRYSTARRYNIGHT, the three year old filly by SADLER'S WELLS out of the SHIRLEY HEIGHTS mare UPPER CIRCLE recieved a major catalogue update when she finished second in the Listed Finale Stakes at the Curragh for trainer Aidan O'Brien. The filly is an own-sister to the Listed winner and Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas third STARBOURNE and comes from the family of the Group 1 Oaks winner LADY CARLA. Consigned from Longfield Stud in Ireland on behalf of the Sangster family, the filly was knocked down to New Zealand based agent Bruce Perry after he outbid his compatriate, agent Paul Moroney. Perry purchased the filly on behalf of Deborah Ho who boards her mares at Trelawney Stud in New Zealand.
