Lot 189, the colt by the dual Derby winner GALILEO out of ELA-MANA-MOU mare WELSH LOVE looked the pick of the catalogue as a half-brother to Group 1 winner and Champion Irish two-year-old SECOND EMPIRE as well as Group and Listed winners BALESTRINI, AJHIBA, HEMINGWAY and IHTIRAM. Consigned from Pat O'Kelly's Kilcarn Stud, the colt also numbers Champion filly SALSABIL and Group 1 winner and sire MARJU amongst his close relatives. Bidding began at 100,000 guineas and rose steadily towards 200,000 guineas. As the price passed 200,000 guineas bidding settled down to a dual between Blandford Bloodstock's Tom Goff and Tipperary-based veterinarian Demi O'Byrne. It was O'Byrne who made the winning bid of 255,000 guineas for the colt who is likely to join the Ballydoyle Stables of Aiden O'Brien where his half brothers SECOND EMPIRE, BALESTRINI and HEMINGWAY were all trained.
The second lot to break the six figure barrier was lot 147, the filly by INDIAN RIDGE out of the Listed winning MUJADIL mare LADY OF KILDARE. Consigned from Jacqueline Norris' Jockey Hall Stud, the filly was purchased by bloodstock agent Will Edmeades after he saw off the determined efforts of London based agent Charlie Gordon-Watson with a bid of 110,000 guineas. Edmeades indicated that the filly would be joining Sir Mark Prescott at his Heath House Stables in Newmarket for an existing owner.
