A son of CLODOVIL topped the opening day of the five day Tattersalls December Foal Sale as 131 lots were sold for 1,086,600 guineas, at an average of 8,295 guineas and a median of 4,000 guineas.

Lot 541, the colt by CLODOVIL out of the the INCHINOR mare INCHING topped proceeding’s on the opening day when knocked down to Redpender Stud’s Jimmy Murphy for 60,000 guineas. The colt, who was consigned from Mick Channon’s Norman Court Stud, is out of INCHING, a half-sister to the smart Group 3 winning sprinter MAJESTIC MISSILE. Murphy outstayed Ciaran ‘Flash’ Conroy to secure the colt by CLODOVIL, the Group 1 winning son of DANEHILL whose first runners, headed by the Group 2 Lowther Stakes winner NAHOODH, have so impressed this year.
The Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye winner AVONBRIDGE has his first crop of foals on offer at the Tattersalls December Sale and one of his sons, out of the DAGGERS DRAWN mare GO BETWEEN, was knocked down to locally based agent Richard Frisby for 58,000 guineas. Catalogued as lot 436, the chesnut colt was consigned from John Deer’s Oakgrove Stud and is out of a half-sister to the Group 2 Flying Childers winner WUNDERS DREAM. Frisby secured the racy colt after seeing off the efforts of Hillwood Stud’s Charlie Vigors and Rathmore Stud’s Peter Molony, and indicated that he was bought to race.
Lot 380, a son of the first crop of the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes placed TRADE FAIR out of the HALLING mare RICH DANCER, a half-sister to the Group 2 winner JUST JAMES, was equal third highest price for the day when knocked down to Peter Molony’s Rathmore Stud for 57,000 guineas. Molony indicated that the colt, who was consigned from Charlie and Alice Mason’s Silfield Bloodstock, would be reoffered as a yearling.
A son of dual Group 1 winning Australian sprinter EXCEED AND EXCEL also sold for 57,000 guineas when knocked down to Yeomanstown Stud’s Gay O’Callaghan after he saw off the efforts of Heatherwold Stud’s Mike Caddy. The colt, who was consigned from Bill and Tara Dwan’s The Castlebridge Consignment also looks set to return at the yearling sales in 2008.
