Lot 704, the filly by STARCRAFT from the SHAREEF DANCER mare PROUDFOOT, was knocked down to Badgers Bloodstock’s Grant Pritchard-Gordon for 65,000 guineas. Consigned from Jim Mitchell’s Beechgrove Stud, the filly is a half-sister to the Listed winner HEAD OVER HEELS and TIRIANA, dam of the Group 3 winner and Group 1 Irish 1,000 Guineas second PENKENNA PRINCESS. Pritchard-Gordon purchased the filly on behalf of STARCRAFT’s Australian based owner Paul Makin and indicated that she would probably be reoffered as a yearling. STARCRAFT, whose three Group 1 wins in Australia and New Zealand included the Australian Derby, was the Champion older miler in Europe in 2005 following wins in the Group 1 Prix du Moulin and the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes where he defeated DUBAWI.
Warwickshire based owner Peter Hughes had to go to 60,000 guineas to secure lot 793, the bay filly by ZIETEN out of the Group 1 Prix du Cadran winning KALDOUN mare MERCALLE who had received a timely catalogue update when her half-sister LADY DEAUVILLE won the Listed Heatherwold Stud Stakes at Newbury and the Listed Prix Zeddaan at Fontainebleau during the past month. Consigned from Bill and Tara Dwan’s The Castlebridge Consignment, the filly is also a half-sister to FABULOUS LA FOUINE, the Japanese Listed winner who finished runner-up to SINGSPIEL in the 1996 Group 1 Japan Cup. Hughes, who also owns LADY DEAUVILLE, secured the filly at the expense of Irish pinhooker Peter Kelly.
Lot 819, the bay colt by COMPTON PLACE out of the Listed placed ANABAA mare MILLYBAA also realised 60,000 guineas when knocked down to Rathmore Stud’s Peter Molony and Tweenhills Farm & Stud’s David Redvers. Consigned from Paul & Sara Thorman’s Trickledown Stud, the pair secured the grandson of the Group 2 winning mare MILLYANT after seeing off the determined efforts of Redpender Stud’s Jimmy Murphy and locally based agent Margaret O’Toole and indicated that he would be reoffered as a yearling next year.
