The session topping colt, catalogued as lot 1013, is by Juddmonte Farms’ OASIS DREAM out of smart ALHAARTH racemare DOMINICA, who won the Group 2 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes for trainer Marcus Tregoning. The large number of people who followed the colt in as he entered the sale ring gave advance warning as to the fireworks that lay ahead and Yeomanstown Stud’s Gay O’Callaghan quickly opened the bidding at 50,000 guineas. Hillwood Stud’s Charlie Vigors and Juddmonte Farms’ Teddy Grimthorpe both joined in the action as did Croom House Stud’s Paul McCarten and Camas Park Stud’s Timmy Hyde as the price moved quickly towards 200,000 guineas. It was then that Darley’s John Ferguson and BBA Ireland’s Adrian Nicoll both entered the fray pushing the price further skyward until Ferguson’s bid of 400,000 guineas failed to raise a response from Nicoll. The colt, who was consigned from Bob McCreery’s Stowell Hill Stud on behalf of a partnership, is from the third crop of the triple Group 1 winning sprinter OASIS DREAM, whose first crop of two-year-olds this year have included the Group winners STARLIT SANDS, VISIT and YOUNG PRETENDER.
Another son of a stallion based at Juddmonte Farms’ Banstead Manor Stud outside Newmarket to hit the headlines on the third day was lot 1010, the colt by DANSILI out of the BANDMASTER mare BANDANNA who was knocked down to Meadowlands Stud’s Willie Browne for 200,000 guineas. Like the top lot for the day, the colt was consigned from Bob McCreery’s Stowell Hill Stud, this time on behalf of Miss Rosanne Dobson, and also like the session topper, Paul McCarten and Gay O’Callaghan were frustrated underbidders, along with Tally Ho Stud’s Tony O’Callaghan. DANSILI, a son of DANEHILL out of the phenomenal mare HASILI, is sire of the Group 1 winners ZAMBEZI SUN, PASSAGE OF TIME, PRICE TAG and RAIL LINK. Browne indicated that the colt would be reoffered at next year’s yearling sales.
The top priced filly for the day was lot 1067, the half sister to the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes winner HUNTER STREET, by first season sire ORATORIO out of the RUDIMENTARY mare SEWARDS FOLLY. Consigned from Charlie and Alice Mason’s Silfield Bloodstock, the filly was knocked down to Emerald Bloodstock’s Brendan Gallagher for 130,000 guineas. The filly is from the first crop of ORATORIO, the triple Group 1 winning son of DANEHILL who beat the older horses when winning the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown and the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown as a three-year-old.
