Buyers barely had time to finish their breakfast before the fireworks began on the fourth day when lot 1155, the son of MONSUN out of the ELA-MANA-MOU mare MANDAMOU, entered the ring shortly after 10am. The half-brother to the Listed winner MANDAHUSH, out of a half-sister to MANDELLICHT, dam of the triple Group 1 winning Champion MANDURO, was consigned to the sale from Charlie and Tracy Vigors’ Hillwood Stud. Irish agent Hubie De Burgh opened the bidding which quickly raced past 100,000 guineas whilst Darley’s John Ferguson soon signalled his intentions as did Demi O’Byrne and the pair traded blows until Ferguson failed to answer O’Byrne’s bid of 450,000 guineas. MANDELLICHT herself is due to be offered next week at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale as lot 2289 as is her half-sister MANDELHUSH (lot 2101) and her daughter MADURA (lot 2195).

Little more than an hour later, lot 1179, the GALILEO own brother to Group 1 St Leger second THE LAST DROP, unseated the aforementioned MONSUN colt from top billing for the day when knocked down to O’Byrne for 470,000 guineas. The son of the winning CHARNWOOD FOREST mare EPPING was consigned from Brian Grassick’s Newtown Stud and attracted the attention of Ashtown Bloodstock’s Paul Shanahan as well as agent Tony Nerses, who purchased AUTHORIZED at this sale in 2004 for 95,000 guineas. Nerses and O’Byrne went head to head but once again O’Byrne proved triumphant, securing the son of the 2001 Derby winner GALILEO.

O’Byrne struck again late in the evening when he went to 380,000 guineas to secure lot 1371, the MONTJEU colt out of the DARSHAAN mare MASSKANA, who numbers the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner SULK and the Group 2 winner and Group 1 Derby runner-up EAGLE MOUNTAIN amongst his siblings. The colt, who was consigned from the Wigan family’s West Blagdon Stud, saw initial interest from Lodge Park Stud’s Seamus Burns before German International Bloodstock’s Rudiger Alles took up the running, but he too was found wanting at the expense of O’Byrne.
