The top lot for the day was lot 229, the SADLER’S WELLS colt out of the KAHYASI mare ZARAWA who realised 170,000 guineas to the bid of Irish veterinarian Demi O’Byrne. Consigned from agent John Troy, the stunning colt hails from a classic Aga Khan family that includes the Group 1 winner ZAINTA, whilst the dam ZARAWA is a half-sister to the Group winner ZARKIYA and to the dam of the Listed winning and Group placed ZARANNDA. O’Byrne, who purchases on behalf of the Coolmore trio of John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, indicated that the colt would probably head for Ballydoyle, but that a trainer had not yet been decided on.
Twelve lots earlier, Irish agent John McCormack went to 160,000 guineas to secure lot 217, the MONTJEU colt out of the Group winning IRISH RIVER mare AIM FOR THE TOP. Consigned from ‘Flash’ Conroy’s Glenvale Stud, the colt is a half-brother to POLAR BEAR, second in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes in Australia, and to Group 1 Fillies’ Mile second DANCE TO THE TOP. McCormack, who secured the colt at the expense of Blandford Bloodstock’s Tom Goff, was buying on behalf of a Hong Kong based client.
McCormack had been denied moments earlier when John Gosden secured lot 210, the INDIAN RIDGE colt out of the CATRAIL mare SCRUPLE, for 150,000 guineas. The flashy chesnut, who was consigned from Bob Lanigan’s Tullamaine Castle Stud, is out of a half-sister to the triple Listed winning, Group placed filly HOT TIN ROOF, herself a daughter of the Listed placed NO RESERVATIONS.
