The consignment from Prince Khaled Abdulla's Juddmonte Farms is always one of the highlights of the July Sale with the likes of METEOR STORM and CONTINENT, both Group 1 winners sold by Juddmonte Farms at Tattersalls, providing the best possible advertisements. From the 25 lots offered, all were sold for 546,300 guineas with the three year old filly ANGRY BARK taking top billing when making 75,000 guineas. Interest in the WOODMAN filly was strong from the start with Australian breeder Michael Jacobs and New Zealand Bloodstock's John Cameron both signalling their intent before the Coolmore pair of Kevin Buckley and Michael Kirwan joined the fray. Gordian Troeller, who purchased recent Grade 1 American Oaks victor TICKER TAPE at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale, also entered proceedings as did Highflyer Bloodstock's David Minton. In the end it was Minton who secured the daughter of Group winner POLEMIC on behalf of a local English breeder.
At the conclusion of the 2004 Tattersalls July Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;
“The July Sale continues to go from strength to strength. There has been a real buzz at Park Paddocks over the last three days and records have been broken in every category. Ten years ago we catalogued only 239 lots at this sale, and the turnover was a little over 1,300,000 guineas. This year we have had the largest ever July Sale with 590 lots catalogued, a record average and median and a record turnover in excess of 5,000,000 guineas.You can’t ask for more.
“The feature of the sale has been the consistent demand across the board. Buyers have come from all corners of the globe for the breeding stock, and the competition for horses in training from both Flat and National Hunt connections has been equally intense. Particularly pleasing has been the support of the July Sale from so many of the major owner/breeders with quality consignments from Cheveley Park Stud, Darley, Gainsborough Stud, Juddmonte Farms and Shadwell Estates all generating considerable interest. The 130,000 guineas paid for the Cheveley Park mare ECHOES was a record for a broodmare at the July Sale and the Darley fillies demonstrated the enduring appeal of top quality international families.”
