The top lot for the day was during the morning session when the unnamed two-year-old colt by ELUSIVE QUALITY out of the CLEVER TRICK mare CLEVER MONIQUE realised 55,000 guineas to the bid of bloodstock agent Christoph Nouvellet. The colt, who had missed his original date at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up, was consigned to the sale from Jim McCartan’s Gaybrook Lodge Stud in Ireland. Nouvellet indicated that the half-brother to the Grade 1 winner YES IT’S TRUE could be put into training in either the United States or in France.
The next lot into the ring, the CHEROKEE RUN colt out of the NIGHT SHIFT mare INNOCENT AFFAIR, a half-sister to the Derby winner NEW APPROACH, was another lot to miss his breeze up appointment, this time the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up. Consigned from Ger Kennedy’s Sherbourne Lodge in Ireland, the two-year-old was knocked down to the BBA Ireland’s Eamonn Reilly for 52,000 guineas after he saw off the efforts of Irish agent Bobby O’Ryan.
