The top lot on the final day was SHELA HOUSE, the four-year-old son of SELKIRK who was offered with a ‘Timeform’ rating of 97. Consigned to the sale from James Fanshawe’s Pegasus Stables, the winning son of VILLA CARLOTTA was knocked down to John Butler on behalf of Irish agent Gerry Hogan after he saw off the efforts of Stephen Hillen. SHELA HOUSE is set to join BEST MATE’s former jockey Jim Culloty at his recently established training base at Mallow in County Cork.
At the conclusion of the 2008 Tattersalls July Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;
“The figures are down on last year’s July Sale, which is no surprise in the present economic climate, but there have been a number of positives to take out of this week’s trade. The catalogue probably lacked a few stars amongst the horses in training compared with recent years but the turnover of well in excess of 7,000,000 guineas and the average of around 15,000 guineas are the third highest for this fixture behind only the July Sales of 2006 and 2007. The demand from overseas buyers has been the outstanding feature of the past four days and the clearance rate of more than 80% has yet again demonstrated the enduring appeal of the July Sale.
“Looking ahead to our October Yearling Sales, we have been particularly encouraged by the positive response to the expanded Tattersalls Timeform Millions attached to Book 1. The addition of the new £250,000 6 furlong two year old race to the series has been very well received by owners and trainers and with four races and £2,300,000 in prize money the series promises to offer yearling buyers unprecedented opportunities. The inaugural Tattersalls Timeform Millions and Tattersalls Timeform Fillies’ 800 take place three days before the start of Book 1 and both races look set to be hugely competitive events.”
The DANEHILL filly CINQUANTE CINQ topped proceeding’s on the third day of the Tattersalls July Sale at 100,000 guineas as 133 lots were sold for 1,813,500 guineas, at an average of 13,635 guineas and a median of 8,000 guineas. (More)
