Lot 185, the bay colt by MONTJEU out of NASHWAN mare MILLENNIUM DASH is an own brother to the Listed winning and Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks placed DASH TO THE TOP. Consigned from Egon Weinfeld’s Meon Valley Stud, the stunning looking colt attracted interest from all parts of the ring, but it was Lambourn trainer Marcus Tregoning, with a group of owners from Kazakhstan, who made much of the running. However, Tregoning was unable to withstand the efforts of Coolmore supremo John Magnier whose bid of 500,000 guineas succeeded in seeing off all his rivals, allowing him to secure the colt.

Purchased by John Magnier for 500,000 gns

The second highest priced lot on the opening day was 480,000 guineas for Lot 25, the KYLLACHY half-sister to the dual Group 1 winner DUTCH ART, who was knocked down to Blandford Bloodstock’s Tom Goff. Goff saw off the efforts of Lynn Lodge Stud’s Eddie O’Leary and Barouche Stud’s Rory Matthews to secure the filly on behalf of Andrew Black, co-founder and part owner of Betfair who are sponsors of Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale. Black has enjoyed good racecourse success this year with Royal Ascot winner WINKER WATSON and purchased the filly with a view to breeding from her in the future. Out of the SPECTRUM mare HALLAND PARK LASS, the filly was consigned to the sale by Paul and Sara Thorman’s Trickledown Stud and provided a great pinhooking result for her owners who purchased her as a foal at last year’s Tattersalls December Foal Sale for 280,000 guineas through agent Amanda Skiffington.
