Whilst yearlings by MONTJEU have dominated the headlines on the first two days
of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, yearlings by fellow Coolmore
resident GALILEO have not been short of admirers either with Classic winners
SOLDIER OF FORTUNE, SIXTIES ICON and NIGHTIME amongst his three crops of
racing age as well as Group 1 winning two-year-olds TEOFILO and NEW APPROACH.
During the first three days of the sale, 16 yearlings by GALILEO have sold
for a total of 3,735,000 guineas, at an average of 233,438 guineas and the
highest of these was lot 383, the colt out of the Listed winning SILVER HAWK
mare SILVER COLOURS who realised 750,000 guineas to the bid of John Magnier.
Consigned from Chris Wright's Stratford Place Stud, the half brother to the
Listed winner SILVER PIVOTAL was secured by Magnier after he withstood the
efforts of AUTHORIZED's owner Saleh Al Homaizi and agent John Warren, seated
with Sir Robert Ogden.
Coolmore supremo John Magnier was certainly in an acquisitional mood, for a total of six lots for 2,472,000 guineas during the day including the own brother to the Group 3 UAE Derby winner STAGELIGHT for 600,000 guineas. The bay colt, by MONTJEU out of the SHERNAZAR mare ZIVANIA, counts the Group 2 winner IVAN LUIS and Listed winners ZERO PROBLEMO, AMATHIA and HATHRAH amongst his siblings and was consigned to the sale from Peter and Antoinette Kavanagh's Kildaragh Stud. Agent David Metcalfe made a concerted effort to secure the colt as did the pair of John Warren seated with Sir Robert Ogden, and whilst the latter came closest, they had to play second fiddle to Magnier once again.
Another of Magnier's purchases on the third day was the bay colt by OASIS DREAM out of the Group 2 winning AVERTI mare WUNDERS DREAM. Consigned from James Egan's Corduff Stud, the colt is from the second crop of Juddmonte Farms' OASIS DREAM, the Champion three-year-old European sprinter in 2003 whose three Group 1 victories included the July Cup and the Nunthorpe Stakes. OASIS DREAM's first crop have made a very strong impression on the racecourse, with five Group and Listed winners this year including the Group 3 winners VISIT, STARLIT SANDS and YOUNG PRETENDER. Magnier secured the colt after seeing off the efforts of Lambourn based trainer Charlie Egerton.
Four time Group 1 winner DALAKHANI, who counted the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe amongst his victories, has been represented by his first runners in 2007 which have included the talented YAHRAB and the highly promising CHINESE WHITE and there was plenty of interest in one of his sons, Lot 452. The bay colt is out of the SADLER'S WELLS mare TIME HONOURED, a daughter of Robert Barnett's Champion mare TIME CHARTER, dam of the Group winners ZINAAD and TIME ALLOWED and granddam of the Group winners FIRST CHARTER, ANTON CHEKHOV, PLEA BARGAIN and TIME AWAY. The colt, consigned from Jamie Railton, was knocked down to John Ferguson for 480,000 guineas after he saw off the efforts of London based agent Charlie Gordon-Watson.
