TATTERSALLS OCTOBER 1 BOOST AFTER LASHES OAKS WINS
The Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, sponsored by Betfair, received a timely boost following the win of the Jim Bolger trained LUSH LASHES in the Group 1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks with her ROYAL APPLAUSE half-brother catalogued as Lot 460.
The race, which was rescheduled to Newmarket Racecourses July course following the abandonment of the York fixture, saw LUSH LASHES ran out a convincing winner over DAR RE MI and MICHITA and cemented her place as the leading filly of her generation. The daughter of GALILEO, who also won the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, was bred by Mrs Ann Jenkins who also bred her half-brother who will be offered at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by Luke Lillingston’s Mount Coote Stud.
It was to prove a good day for Mount Coote Stud as they also bred ALL THE GOOD, winner of the Newburgh Handicap at Newbury, the race created to replace the abandoned Ebor handicap. His HALLING three-parts sister is catalogued as Lot 1057 at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
GALILEO, who looks the heir apparent to the fourteen time GB/IRE Champion Sire SADLER’S WELLS is represented by 35 yearlings in Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale whilst Mount Coote Stud offer a conginment of nine yearlings.
The Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 takes place from October 7-9 and catalogues are out now and available from Tattersalls and Tattersalls representatives or online here. All yearlings catalogued are eligible for the £2,300,000 Tattersalls Timeform Millions, which with an entry fee of only £6,000, represents the best value for money sales race series in the world.
REDOUTE’S CHOICE FILLY TO SELL AT TATTERSALLS OCTOBER 1
First Redoute’s Choice Yearling to be Offered in Northern Hemisphere
A filly by Australian Champion sire REDOUTE’S CHOICE is to be sold at Book 1 of the forthcoming Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, sponsored by Betfair, which takes place from Tuesday 7th October to Thursday 9th October.
The January foaled filly is out of the Group 2 winning RORY’S JESTER mare CATNIPPED and will be the first yearling by the Arrowfield based stallion to be offered in the Northern Hemisphere. The half or three parts sister to four winners, including DANEHILL’s Stakes placed son FANGIO, will be consigned from Lord and Lady Lloyd – Webber’s Watership Down Stud on behalf of her breeder Carl Holt.
Commenting on the filly, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;
“REDOUTE’S CHOICE is a world class sire and she is a lovely filly so it is exciting to have the first REDOUTE’S CHOICE yearling ever to be offered outside Australia or New Zealand.”
Arrowfield Stud Managing Director John Messara added; “We are privileged to stand a stallion of the calibre of REDOUTE’S CHOICE at Arrowfield and it is appropriate that his first yearling to be offered outside Australasia will be sold at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale which is Europe’s premier yearling sale. This yearling resulted from the first year of Redoute’s Choice’s Northern Hemisphere matings in Australia. The first REDOUTE’S CHOICE foal to be sold outside Australia or New Zealand was offered recently at the JRHA Select Foal Sale in Japan and was very well received so we look forward to another successful result at Tattersalls in October.”

The world record price for a yearling filly was shattered at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale when the SADLER’S WELLS filly out of the IRISH RIVER mare BRIGID sold for 2,500,000 guineas on a day when three yearlings sold for 1,000,000 guineas or more. The world record price for a yearling filly was shattered at Book 1 of the
Tattersalls October Yearling Sale when the SADLER’S WELLS filly out
of the IRISH RIVER mare BRIGID sold for 2,500,000 guineas (£2,625,000
or $5,330,000). The previous record for a yearling filly was the $4,400,000
paid for the STORM CAT filly out of EAST OF THE MOON in Kentucky in
2000. The own sister to recent Group 1 Meon Valley Stud Fillies' Mile winner
LISTEN was knocked down to London based bloodstock agent Charlie Gordon-Watson
who was acting on behalf of Cheshire based owner Craig Bennett, after outlasting
agent Simon Christian, who was seated alongside owner Patrick Fahey. Bennett,
the former Finance Director of mobile
phone business ‘Phones4u’,
indicated that the world record breaking filly would join Newmarket
trainer Luca Cumani who also trains Bennett’s current Melbourne Cup
favourite PURPLE MOON. The filly was sold on behalf of Brittas House Stud
from former Cheltenham Gold Cup winning jockey Mark Dwyer’s Oaks Farm
Stables and as well as being a new world record price for a yearling filly,
the daughter of SADLER’S WELLS is also the highest priced yearling
to be sold in the world in 2007.
Gordon-Watson struck again on behalf of Craig Bennett late in the day when he went to 1,000,000 guineas to secure Lot 697, the GIANT'S CAUSEWAY filly out of the MACHIAVELLIAN mare ELLEN. The half-sister to the Group placed FASLEN is a grand-daughter of the Charles Wacker's 1,000 Guineas winner SLEEPYTIME and was consigned to the sale from Lady Joanna Wellesley's Marston Stud. Agents Paul Webber and Ollie Cole made bold bids to secure the filly as did Simon Christian and Patrick Fahey who were to finish underbidder to Gordon-Watson again.
Earlier in the day Gordon-Watson had signed for the other seven figure
lot, when he purchased Lot 586, the grey colt by DALAKHANI out of the
LAMMTARRA mare BELLA LAMBADA. The colt is from one of the great families
of consignor Egon Weinfeld's Meon Valley Stud, boasting REPROCOLOR as
his great-granddam and BELLA COLORA as his dam. Lambourn trainer Charles
Egerton and Darley's John Ferguson both made bold bids for the colt,
but neither could match the 1,000,000 guineas bid by Gordon-Watson who
purchased him on behalf of an unnamed client. It was no surprise to see
that Gordon-Watson topped the purchasers list at the end of the four
days, signing for 27 lots for a total of 8,391,000 guineas.
At the conclusion of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale,
sponsored by Betfair, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;
“We would have to be satisfied with the way Book 1 of our October Yearling Sale has gone, and it was wonderful to end the week on a high with the new world record price of 2,500,000 guineas for a yearling filly and record turnover for the sale.
“The introduction of the £2,200,000 Tattersalls Timeform Millions has without doubt brought the trainers out in much greater numbers and they have made a major contribution on all four days, but the real feature of the week has been the particularly robust top end of the market. All of the usual faces at that level have been as active as ever but they have found competition from many different quarters and it was hugely encouraging to see three relative newcomers fighting it out on the record breaking filly. It is a while since we have seen that level of demand from new participants and it demonstrates a real appetite for the sort of quality that has always been the hallmark of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
“An indication of the strength at the top is the number of yearlings making in excess of 200,000 guineas which has increased significantly on last year. In addition, as has been the case for a number of years now, the demand for well bred fillies has been outstanding. The market has, however, been selective at times and the sheer number of yearlings catalogued can seem a little daunting, but the significant increase in turnover this week is a real positive. We have two more good catalogues to come starting next Tuesday and we will be able to assess the state of play fully at the end of Book 3, but we can derive plenty of encouragement from the last four days.”
Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale starts on Tuesday, October 16 at 9.30am.
A son of GALILEO topped proceedings on the third day of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale at 750,000 guineas as 131 lots were sold for 15,736,000 guineas at an average of 120,122 guineas and a median of 78,000 guineas. (More including stats, pictures and video)
The three parts brother to Champion filly DIVINE PROPORTIONS stole the show on the second day of Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale, selling for 1,000,000 guineas on a day when 132 lots changed hands for 15,801,000 guineas at an average of 119,705 guineas and a median of 70,000 guineas. (More including stats, pictures and video)

A total of 126 lots were sold for 14,548,000 guineas, at an average of 115,460 guineas and a median of 86,000 guineas. (More including stats, pictures and video)
