The first was Lot 1251, a bay colt by NIGHT SHIFT out of the ROCK CITY mare ROXY. The full brother to this year's winning filly NIGHT KISS was consigned from David and Trish Brown's Furnace Mill Stud on behalf of Poulton Stud. The Brown's were continuing a hugely successful two weeks at Tattersalls having sold a son of DIKTAT for 310,000 guineas on the third day of last week's October Yearling Sale Part 1. The colt was purchased by locally based economist Dr Klaus Rohde who was spurred on following a successful week as a vendor at the Tattersalls Houghton Yearling Sale where he sold the SADLER'S WELLS yearling filly out of his Classic winning and Group 1 producing mare FILIA ARDROSS for 330,000 guineas.

An hour later, Lot 1280, a bay colt by ALZAO out of the SELKIRK mare SERENITY equalled the highest price for the day when Catridge Farm Stud's David Powell went to 46,000 guineas to secure the colt on behalf of owner Eric Gadsden. The sale represented a pinhooking success for the colt who was purchased as a foal for €16,000 by Paddy Twomey, and consigned by Co. Tipperary based Michael Downey. The son of the Group 3 Rockfel Stakes third SERENITY and half-brother to 2003 winner CAMILLE PISSARRO also saw interest from trainer Paul Cole and agent Peter Doyle before Powell secured him to go to Cullompton based trainer Stewart Kittow.

The third lot to break the 40,000 guineas barrier on the opening day was lot 1338, the PIVOTAL filly out the winning PRIMO DOMINIE mare TANGERINE . Yearlings by the Cheveley Park Stud based PIVOTAL have been in high demand at Tattersalls during the past two weeks and it was locally based bloodstock agent Penny Barnes who landed the filly for 40,000 guineas after seeing off the efforts of Irish based Breeze Up consignor Willie Browne. The filly, consigned from Green Stone Stud, represented another pinhooking triumph, having been purchased for 12,000 guineas at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale.
