The top price for the day was the 110,000 guineas paid for lot 1327, the FRAAM colt out of the DILUM mare PERIQUITUM who was knocked down to the bid of London based bloodstock agent Charlie Gordon-Watson. Consigned from Ciaran Conroy's Glenvale Stud, the colt is a half brother to this year's Goodwood winner DOCTOR'S CAVE and represented a pinhooking triumph for his owners, having been purchased for 45,000 guineas at the 2003 Tattersalls December Foal Sale. Lambourn trainer Jamie Osborne was underbidder on the colt who will go into training with Ed Dunlop at his Gainsborough Stables in Newmarket for owner Mohammed Jaber. The Jaber family is no stranger to success with progeny of the Tweenhills Farm based FRAAM, with Mohammed Jaber's father, Jaber Abdullah being the owner of the Group 1 performing filly MAJESTIC DESERT.
The second highest priced lot for the day was lot 1098, the MARJU colt
who realised 105,000 guineas to the bid of bloodstock agent Gill
Richardson. Consigned from Peter Stanley's New England Stud, the
colt is out the MR PROSPECTOR mare SHIMNA, a half sister to the Group
1 St Leger winner SHANTOU and grand-daughter of the Champion three
year old filly OH SO SHARP. The colt's GREEN DESERT half brother
SANTA FE, who realised 210,000 guineas at Part 1 of the 2003 October
Yearling Sale, looks an exciting prospect following his maiden victory
for trainer Sir Michael Stoute. Richardson's winning bid was her
only one, after a protracted battle between Shadwell Estate's Angus
Gold and Newmarket trainer Jeremy Noseda. Noseda saw off Gold with
his bid of 100,000 guineas but had no answer when Richardson upped
the ante. MARJU, who stands at Sheikh Hamdan's Irish operation Derrinstown
Stud has enjoyed a good year with his multiple Group 1 winning filly
SOVIET SONG and the Italian trained filly MARBYE, winner of the Group
1 Prix d'Astarte.
The top priced filly for the day was the 80,000 guineas paid by Charlie
Gordon-Watson for lot 1130, by MEDICEAN out of the winning ASSERT
mare THROW AWAY LINE. The filly, who was consigned from Tim Holland-Martin's
Grasshopper Stud, is from the first crop of Cheveley Park Stud's
dual Group 1 winner MEDICEAN, and is a half sister to a trio of Listed
winners in WAVEY, HESPERIA and REBUFF. Gordon-Watson secured the
filly on behalf of Peter Watson's Easton Park Stud after a determined
effort by Luciano Salice, the Italian owner who raced FALBRAV. The
filly will go into training with Luca Cumani at his Bedford Lodge
Stables in Newmarket.
