The progeny of Cheveley Park Stud stallion KYLLACHY have been in demand all week and it was fitting that one of his sons topped proceedings on the final day of Part 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. Consigned from John Deer's Oakgrove Stud, the son of the LAST TYCOON mare ROYAL JADE is a half-brother to five winners including the Listed-placed MILLION PERCENT. As has been the case all week, demand came from all parts of the ring, with Emerald Bloodstock's Brendan Gallagher and Blandford Bloodstock's Richard Brown, sitting with Newmarket trainer David Simcock both making bids. James Owen, assistant trainer to Newmarket trainer Ed Vaughan also made a bold effort to secure the colt but was to be denied by veteran bloodstock agent James Delahooke who made the winning bid of 76,000 guineas.
At the conclusion of Part 2 of the 2005 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale,
Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;
“ Trade has been little short of phenomenal this week,
and it has been a genuine pleasure to see such a wide cross section
of vendors so handsomely rewarded not only this week at Part 2 of
our October Yearling Sale, but also last week at Part 1. The vendors,
British, Irish and from further a field, are the key to the success
of our yearling sales. They have presented us with the cream of the
European yearling crop and the buyers have responded with unrelenting
demand over the last two weeks.
“ We have enjoyed record combined turnover over the two weeks, well in
excess of 76,000,000 guineas and this week’s trade has also seen records
across the board. Turnover for Part 2 has nudged 17,000,000 guineas, up around
30% on last year with over 400 less horses catalogued, while the average and
median have both soared more than 70%. In addition there have been 19 six figure
transactions this week as opposed to five at Part 2 in 2004 and a massive 93
making 50,000 guineas or more as opposed to 33 last year.
“ The crucial factors that have made the last two weeks such a success
have been the slight changes made to the format and the spectacular run of racecourse
successes enjoyed by Tattersalls yearling purchases this year. The likes of MOTIVATOR,
SHAMARDAL and GEORGE WASHINGTON give buyers at all levels the confidence to participate,
and with so many of this year’s top two year olds coming from the 2004
October Part 2, including FLASHY WINGS, ALWAYS HOPEFUL, CLOSE TO YOU and tomorrow’s
unbeaten Dewhurst contender SIR PERCY, it is little wonder that we have seen
buyers queuing up to buy this week. The format changes have also played a vital
part. At the end of last year we said that we felt it would be important to manage
the numbers in a manner which placed less strain on the market, and I think we
have achieved that in both Parts 1 and 2 of the October Yearling Sales. The past
two weeks mean that we, and the whole industry, can look forward with a degree
of confidence to the remaining 2005 sales at Park Paddocks.”
