Catalogued as lot 867, and consigned from Bobby and Honora Donworth’s Round Hill Stud, the bay colt by CAPE CROSS out of the SADLER’S WELLS mare TRUE CRYSTAL, a daughter of the Group 3 Lancashire Oaks winner STATE CRYSTAL. The colt was knocked down to Newmarket based agent Richard O’Gorman for 160,000 guineas after he outlasted the efforts of Lambourn based trainer Clive Cox.

Purchased by R O'Gorman Bloodstock for 160,000 guineas

Earlier in the day the EXCEED AND EXCEL colt out of the ZAFONIC mare RIBH was knocked down to John Ferguson for 130,000 gns. Consigned from Charlie and Tracy Vigors’ Hillwood Stud, the grandson of the Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner TORGAU was knocked down to Ferguson after an extended duel with Hong Kong based owner Jim Walker, stood alongside New Zealand-based agent Ric Wylie.

SHIROCCO, the son of MONSUN based at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket, counted the Grade 1 Breeders Cup Turf amongst his four Group 1 victories and there has been plenty of interest in his first crop of yearlings with three selling for six-figure amounts at Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale. On the opening day of Book 2 he was again represented by a yearling to realise 100,000 guineas or more when the colt out of the SUAVE DANCER mare SO ADMIRABLE was knocked down to Blandford Bloodstock’s Tom Goff for 125,000 guineas. SO ADMIRABLE is a daughter of Lord & Lady Lloyd-Webber’s MTOTO mare SUMOTO, dam of the Group 1 winning pair SUMMONER and COMPTON ADMIRAL, and the sale of her SHIROCCO colt provided a great result for her consignor Dominic Burke’s Whitley Stud.
