Lot 2197, the bay colt by INDIAN RIDGE out of the SADLER’S WELLS mare FLYING KISS was consigned from Peter Stanley’s New England Stud and knocked down to trainer John Gosden for 25,000 guineas. The colt comes from one of the best families of the Sangster Family’s Swettenham Stud, being a grand-daughter of KANMARY, dam of the Group 1 winners LIT DE JUSTICE and COMMANDER COLLINS as well as this year’s Group 1 Racing Post second and Group 2 Royal Lodge winner CITY LEADER.

LOT 2197: INDIAN RIDGE - FLYING KISS

Purchased by John Gosden for 25,000 gns

Lot 2133, the bay colt by SULAMANI out of the KING’S THEATRE mare TINTERA entered the ring early into the evening session. Consigned from Richard Kent’s Mickley Stud, the colt attracted the attention of dual-purpose trainer Richard Phillips, but he was usurped by leading Norwegian trainer Are Ayldmo who landed the colt for 24,000 guineas.

Half an hour later, legendary trainer Henry Cecil went to the same price to secure lot 2154, the chesnut colt by OBSERVATORY out of the NASHWAN mare ASH GLADE. A half-brother to four winners, the colt was consigned from Abbeywood Sales and is out of a half-sister to WINCE, Khalid Abdullah’s SELKIRK filly whom Cecil trained to win the 1000 Guineas in 1999.

During the morning session Gordion Troeller secured lot 2066, the SINGSPIEL filly out of the Listed winning ZILZAL mare MONAASSABAAT, consigned from the Swinburn family’s Genesis Green Stud. The half-sister to the Listed winning and Group 3 May Hill second ECHO RIVER also saw interest from Lambourn trainer Tom Dacsombe and BBA Germany’s Lena Mueller, but neither could match Troeller who secured the filly for 22,000 guineas. Troeller indicated that the filly was purchased on behalf Californian trainer Jim Cassidy.

At the conclusion of Book 4 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;

“Overall it has been a successful week with the Autumn Horses in Training Sale recording figures second only to last year, but it would be wrong to pretend that today’s yearling trade has been plain sailing. The number of yearlings on offer throughout Europe has never been greater and the impact was evident at the lower end of the market. Demand for quality commercial yearlings, as seen in particular throughout the record breaking Books 1 and 2 of our October Yearling Sale, has rarely been stronger, but that level of demand could not be sustained all the way through to the end. Managing the extreme numbers is an issue to which we will give plenty of thought over the coming months.”
