Lot 327E: one of the day's expected stars did not disappoint, Monumental, the wildcard entry from Coolmore, fetched 325,000gns, the son of Kingman bought by Omar Esmil Ghrghar.
Ramzi Alghul, at Tattersalls and in charge of the purchasing operations for Ghrghar, said: "He will be trained either in France of Dubai, plans are open at the moment. He was a stand-out for us today, he is a very nice horse and has been Group 2 placed and trained by Aidan O'Brien. He is a perfect fit for us and if he goes to Dubai he will be trained by Bhupat Seemar."
Monumental finished third last time out in the Somerville Tattersalls Stakes (G3) on September 26, second in the Champagne Stakes (G3) on September 14, and he won his maiden on September 3 at Gowran Park.
The Libyian-based Ghrghar purchased four horses at this year's July Sale, including another wildcard entry, The Campden Colt, for the quartet's top price of 130,000gns. Ghrghar was that sale's leading buyer with an outlay of 417,000gns.
Bred by Barronstown Stud, Monumental is out of the Dubawi mare Riga, who was Listed placed in France. She is dam of the Group 3 winner Tantheem and grand-dam of Facteur Cheval, winner of this year's Dubai Turf (G1) and second to Charyn at the recent British Champions Day meeting at Ascot in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (G1). (18:43)
Lot 322: the two-year-old Rebel Diamond is another Richard Brown / Blandford Bloodstock purchase, the agent going to 300,000gns to secure the colt by Cotai Glory. He was in training with Natalia Lupini.
The juvenile boasts high-class form – he won the 6f Blenheim Stakes (L) at Fairyhouse in September, having previously won his maiden and an EBF auction race.
Brown said: "He has been progressive, won his last three starts including a Listed race last time out. We have no plans as yet. He was very well presented, he looked great, plenty of size and scope to continue his career as a three-year-old and he does not look overtrained." (18:24)
Lot 308: the No Nay Never three-year-old colt Master of The Hunt is sold by Coolmore to SBS Global for 220,000gns. He won his maiden in June at Gowran Park over a mile.
He is out of Flower Fashion (Flower Alley), who was a winner of three races in France and the US, and twice Listed placed in France. (18:07)
Lot 299: Garfield Shadow, by James Garfield and out of Lara's Theme (Lawman), is sold by Richard Fahey's Musley Bank Stables to Blandford Bloodstock for 310,000gns.
Rated 96, and a runner-up in a 0-105 handicap at Ascot at the beginning of October, he has only once finished out of the frame in nine career starts, including taking a third spot in a competitive 17-runner premier handicap at Leopardstown in September.
"He is a talented horse, I bought him for Sheikh Juma at the [Tattersalls Ireland] Breeze Up Sale and have now bought him for a different client,"said Richard Brown. "I have followed him all the way through, he is a very good looking horse, very sound, a very consistent horse and always runs his race, wherever he continues his career, I have no doubt he will continue to give his new owners plenty of fun." (17:50)
Lot 263: Go Daddy, also from the Linkslade team, makes 350,000gns and will be joining the Ciaron Maher team, bought by Ciaron Maher Racing / JS Bloodstock.
"He profiles perfectly for Australia and I was chatting to Ciaron and he loved him and how consistent he was,"said Will Bourne. "The plan is to keep him in work here with Harry [Eustace] then he’ll go down on the horses-in-training flight and we’ll target the Manion Cup, which Haggas has done really well in with Favourite Moon and Post Impressionist. We’ll aim to run him off the plane during the Sydney Carnival.
“We’ll run him off the plane. We usually buy in our spring and then bring them out, but Harry has prepared horses like Sir Dragonet for us to win a Cox Plate, so Ciaron has full faith in Harry and they work very well together.
“Our max was 400,000gns and I’d have been thrilled to get him for 250,000gns, so anywhere between is pretty much bang on. He has that perfect profile for Australia so I don’t think he was missed by anyone.”
Go Daddy is the winner of one race – a 1m2f Nottingham handicap won off a BHA mark of 83 last October– but he has finished in the places six times, including two thirds in Group 3 races – the 1m6f Deutsches St Leger at Dortmund in September and the 1m5f Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury in August.
He is BHA rated 105, and was fourth last time out in the Listed Noel Murless Stakes at Ascot over 1m6f.
He was bought by Muir from Diego Dias Bloodstock at the Tattersalls Ireland Breeze Up Sale in 2023 for €50,000.
Muir, who has sold eight horses today for a gross of 802,000gns and an average price of 100,250gns, said: "Go Daddy and Freddy will go on, and Spaceport was cheap at 100,000gns, he has got so much to come, all three of those horses do. They are really nice horses with big potential.
"I bought 12 yearlings last week, so we did get round and picked up a few, hopefully the clients who sold today will reinvest." (17:05)
Lot 259: Pat Sells, standing in the bidders, buys the 88-rated Fearless Freddy, a winner of three races over 7f and a mile, from the Willie Muir and Chris Grassick yard of Linkslade Stables.
"He going Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young in Cranbourne, Victoria," reported Pat Sells after spending 280,000gns on the Territories gelding, signing as Busuttin Racing / JP Bloodstock.
"I bought a horse for them called Craig last year, he finished second in the Toorak Handicap (G1) last week and this horse is almost a carbon copy – and both are by Territories. I went to see him at Willie's [Muir's] last week and William describes him as a 'tiger' – if you watch his win at York, every time I watch the replay, you think he couldn't win from where he was, but he has a great turn of foot on soft ground over a mile, it is what we are looking for for Australia."
Sells adds: "Hopefully, he is another Craig. It was theYork run that really put him on the radar for us. He vetted cleanly, there was lots of interest in him, it is a lot of money, but these owners have had success with horse like him – he is a Territories out of a Motivator mare, Craig is by the same sire and out of New Approach mare.
"William will tell you this horse has a bombproof mentality, he wants to win, but you have to pay money for that. Ideally, we would have preferred to pay closer to 200,000gns, but we knew we had to go a bit further." (16:45)
Lot 236: Desperate Hero is heading to Dubai, purchased by Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock as a Carnival prospect.
The Captain Gerrard four-year-old sprint gelding, previously in training with Jack Channon for Norman Court Stud and partner, cost his new connections 300,000gns.
"He is one of those horses, who, when I went through the replays and form, is hard not to like. He has great action, a powerful stride, he has roared through the handicap and turned into a Group 1 horse. He always puts in, I just wanted to get him and loved him from the moment I started researching him and following him.
"He is going to Dubai for the Carnival. It is a division that is that sometimes falls a bit flat, Godolphin mainly has horses in the mile and over distance range, there is a good series for sprinters and, hopefully, he is one for the Al Quoz Sprint and will be there on World Cup night. He is for a client.
"I thought he might have made a bit more with his rating – he has been fourth in a Group 1 and was not beaten far in the Flying Five before that. He is a horse who keeps showing up, runs his race, is an enthusiastic horse, and he had a clean vetting."
Desperate Hero has run 24 times, won six races, and been placed five times. He won a Hamilton handicap over 5f off a BHA mark 91 in June and finished third in the Coral Charge (G3) at Sandown in July, sixth in the Flying Five Stakes (G1) at The Curragh in September and fourth in October's Prix de l'Abbaye (G1). (16:01)
Lot 187: will be jumping hurdles in future – Filibustering bought by Megan Nicholls for cousin trainer Harry Derham, the pair having enjoyed success at Cheltenham at the weekend with Givemefive.
"I am absolutely delighted,"said Nicholls. "I followed this horse with interest in the summer, I have really liked his progress, he loves soft ground which is a positive and he reminds me a bit of Givemefive, he is a fairly similar type to him and he can replicate what he did at the weekend it would be great. He is that sort of model.
"He will be going juvenile hurdle so, hopefully, we will see him in the coming months. He has been bought for an owner, who already has a couple of horses with Harry, but it is the first I have bought for them and great to get one bought at the horses in training sale this year.
The three-year-old gelding, who won over 1m6f in May and finished second over the same trip on soft and heavy ground on his last two starts this autumn, is by Postponed. The son of Dubawi now stands as NH stallion at Yorton Farm. (14:29)
Lot 178: Eben Zaabeel, the first in the ring this week by leading sire Sea The Stars, is bought for 100,000gns by Colm Sharkey, who signed the docket for SARM Racing.
The three-year-old gelding, bred and owned by Shadwell, has now run seven times, and although is still a maiden, finished second on his last two starts over 1m3f and 1m4f, off a BHA rating of 79.
He is out of the Listed-winning, Group 3-placed Yaazy (Teofilo) from the family of Ribchester, Bangkok and Matterhorn. (14:10)
Lot 138: Alastair Donald of Sackville Donald, standing in his usual place by the back door, was left as an underbidder after having to concede to Blandford Bloodstock's Richard Brown, who was also his usual bidding spot up on the left stairs, for Skipper at 200,000gns.
"He is a progressive type, and is out of a half-sister to Kinross who has got better with age," said Brown. "He did not act on softer ground last time, he has been bought for an existing client, and plans are fluid."
Bred by Lawn Stud, a first foal out of the Exceed And Excel mare Skipinnish, and raced by Julian Richmond-Watson, Skipper, a three-year-old son of Calyx, won his maiden over a mile at Chelmsford in August and finished mid-division in a handicap over the same trip at Haydock in September.
He is Timeform rated 104. (13:02)
Lot 114: "He has been bought for the US-based syndicate Pocket Aces Racing," said Ted Durcan after spending 100,000gns on Misty Memories, a colt by Kodiac and previously trained by Richard Hughes, sold today by his Weathercock House Stables,
"He is a maiden still, which is of real benefit to go to the US, will possibly go to trainer Brendan Walsh and has been bought to run on the Turf or synthetics."
He is a horse known well to Durcan: "I bought him from the breeze-ups [Tattersalls Ireland 2024, €120,000] and obviously know him well and have followed his form. This is the first horse I have purchased for Pocket Aces Racing."
By Kodiac, Misty Memories finished a good second last time at Kempton to Godolphin's Masai Moon, and has finished third, fourth and second on his three starts to date.
He is from the extended family of Galeota, Brown Sugar, Burnt Sugar, Charyn and Wings Of War. (12:26)
Lot 73: trainer Simon Dow spends 55,000gns on the Sergei Prokofiev two-year-old Majestic Wave previously trained by John O'Donoghue and a winner last time out of a 19-runner maiden over 6f at Navan on October 9.
In four starts the colt has not finished out of the first two places after his debut, when he came home in fourth. He has been given a Timeform rating 88.
Bred by Whitwell Bloodstock and Magnolia Bloodstock, he is out of the Stimulation Duchess of Cambridge Stakes (G3) third placed Tongue Twista, the dam of five winners from six runners. (12:08)
Lot 68: the first to a six-figure sum today is Jareth, the first in the ring from of the Baroda Stud consignment. The two-year-old gelding was bought by Ciaran Maher Racing / JS Bloodstock for 140,000gns.
Will Bourne, head of bloodstock for Maher, is at Tattersalls with Billy Jackson Stops, the pair bidding from the back stairs.
"He will go to Ciaran, we will get him into the Australian system and, hopefully, he will go through the grades," said Bourne. "I love his progression, he is a young horse, I loved his improvement from his first start to his second – he has shown that he has talent and you never know where they end up. The high handicap mark he was given on that last start was not that advantageous for us, but I guess it was justified."
The gelding, bred by Herbertstown House Stud and owned in training by Dr Marcella Burns, is out of the winning Mastercraftsman mare Diylawa, a half-sister to Diamil (Awtaad), a dual Group 3 winner in Australia. It is the family of the two-time Australian Group 1 runner-up Dibayani. (11:33)
Lot 20: trainer Hamad Al Jehani goes to 30,000gns for the Footstepsinthesand gelding Morello Man, offered by Keatley Racing Ltd.
The two-year-old, from the family of the Group 1 winner Chachamidee, has run once when second at Pontefract last week over 6f, Timeform reporting that the colt "will improve".
This summer the Qatari trainer Al Jehani has sent out nine winners from his Newmarket stables, his first stint based in the UK. (10:33)
Lot 5: the very first lot in the ring this morning sets the wheels in motion... the four-year-old Jack McNamara (French Navy), who has run just twice and finished second on October 17th in a 1m4f maiden at The Curragh for trainer Andrew Kinirons, is bought via an online bid for 87,000gns by Meah Lloyd Bloodstock / Killarney Glen. Chairman's Statement: Edmond Mahony
“I suspect that the 2024 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale will be remembered for a very long time. From the moment the buyers began to descend on Park Paddocks in advance of Book 1 it felt as if something out of the ordinary was beginning to unfold, but nevertheless, not even the most incurable optimist would have predicted that in a period of two weeks more than 200 million guineas would be spent on yearlings at Tattersalls.
“The sustained demand has been breathtaking and the fact that records continued to fall throughout Books 1, 2 and 3 of the October Yearling Sale has, in the current climate, been a very welcome boost for the wider European bloodstock industry. Amongst the numerous extraordinary figures perhaps the most remarkable statistic is that after an unprecedented Book 1 clearance rate of 88 per cent, Book 2 produced three consecutive sessions which achieved clearance rates of 90 per cent or higher and Day 1 of Book 3 had a clearance rate of 88 per cent.
"Only yearling sales of the very highest quality produce such impressive returns and we must pay tribute to the breeders and consignors from Britain, Ireland and further afield whose consistent support of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale brings the buyers to Park Paddocks and Newmarket in such huge numbers year after year, and more than ever in 2024.
“Not every sector of the market has been as robust as we would all like, but the appetite for quality yearlings has been truly global and it has been particularly rewarding to have welcomed so many new buyers from all over the world in the course of the past two weeks, alongside those whose support has long been a feature of so many sales at Tattersalls.
"Between them all they have demonstrated not only the enduring international appeal of the sport of horse racing, but also that Tattersalls in October remains unrivalled as a source of the finest yearlings to be found in Europe.” ()
Book 4
Lot 1856: trainer Henry Candy stays on late in the day to buy this Ardad filly from Throckmorton Stud's fast family. The trainer spends 10,000gns on the May-born filly, bred by Peter Balding and Lady Whent.
The colt is out of a three-time-winning Bold Edge half-sister to the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (G1) winner Twilight Son, Hackwood Stakes (G3) winner Music Master, July Cup (G1) runner-up Run To Freedom, the Listed winner Spring Fling, and to the dam of the July Stakes (G2) and this year's Commonwealth Cup (G1) third-placed Jasour.
Ardad has had 62 yearlings sell through the Tattersalls Somerville and October Sales, achieving an average price of 40,971gns and with a top price of 420,000gns given by Amo Racing for the filly out of Squash sold by Kirtlington Stud. (19:24)

Top lot: Lot 1617, Al Kazeem ex Dream Book, 65,000gns, sold by The National Stud Ltd. to David Hilton / Oakgrove Stud (17:40)
Lot 1761: "She is a cracking filly, walks well, is good hard colour and from a good family, and we had to go a bit further than we had hoped, but we are running out of options and she is proper quality!" said Michael Dods after buying this filly by Washington DC for 60,000gns from breeder Bearstone Stud, a third purchase for Dods today. "I have not trained any by the stallion, but have watched a lot of his runners and Washington Heights has had a good year. She is from a good fast family and is for an existing client."
He added: "We are done now this year! But this sale has been lucky for us – at this sale we have bought a number of godo horses, including Northern Ticker who is rated 101, Azure Blue, who is rated 99, and the Hackwood Stakes (G3) winner Commanche Falls."
Sold by Bearstone Stud, which stands the sire, this January-born filly is a daughter of Seaclusion (Fountain Of Youth). She is a daughter of the Hilary Needler Trophy winner On The Brink (Mind Games). Further back in the essentially Bearstone Stud-developed pedigree is the stud's European champion three-year-old filly, dual Group 1 winner and Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint winner Glass Slippers. (17:13)
Lot 1724: progeny by Territories have been well-received all week, and this colt is no exception – Sean Grassick Bloodstock going to 62,000gns, buying on behalf of trainer Ollie Sangster.
The colt, a first foal out of the mare Pax Britannia, the winner of two races, was sold by The National Stud for breeder Chola Dynasty (The Partnership).
"He is for Ollie, he was very keen on him and saw him yesterday,"said Grassick. "Ollie has done well with the stallion, this is a scopey sort and has some quality."
This is the fourth lot bought by Grassick today, the others have been purchased on behalf of Kevin Coleman in Ireland.
"We always work Book 3 hard, and have had some nice winners from this sale," said Grassick, "and it has been a happy hunting ground today."
The colt was sold by The National Stud, the farm having sold the top two lots so far in this second session of Book 3 – this colt, and the top lot, Lot 1617 by Al Kazeem, who sold for 65,000gns.
Joe Bradley, head of bloodstock, said: "This colt has always been a nice horse, throughout the whole year, but when he came here he just turned it on. He has been sensational and really stood out in this part of the sale. He is an athletic horse, and Territories has had a great year, too. We are slightly surprised, but equally he is worth that sort of money."
Jamie Jackson, nominations and sales manager, said of Lot 1617: "I saw the horse back in July at Brookside Stud, and thought, 'Wow, he is a lovely, big scopey horse.'
"We brought him down here and, initially, he was not really being pulled out, but we put him on everyone's list and then word got out, peple came to view him and he has been showing himself off well. It is wonderful result for us and for our client Steve Bradley, who has a good few horses with us.
"Trade has been great, a lot of people who could not buy in Book 2 have been buying in Book 3 and landing on some good horses. Thankfully they are with us!"
Bradley added: "This whole October Sale has been a really good sale for us. The team at home is busy particularly at this time of year so it is great credit to them all.
"As Jamie said Steve Bradley is the most unbelievable client and friend to us and the stud. He is a big supporter of racing in Newmarket with horses in training with David Simcock, so to get a good result for him is amazing and we are delighted." (16:21)
Lot 1693: "We have had him since February, and he has been a pleasure to have around," said Susie Sands, consignor of this colt by Due Diligence sold to Sean Grassick Bloodstock for 28,000gns. "The cross of Due Diligence over Compton Place mares has worked well before, Diligent Harry is the best and if this lad is even half as good we will be delighted."
the colt is the second foal out of Miss Blondell won won once at two and was placed eigh times. (14:55)
Lot 1667: after buying the Al Kazeem colt earlier today, Oakgrove Stud puts on its consignors' hat and sells this homebred filly by Ardad to Jo Stone on behalf of Newmarket-based trainer Alice Haynes for 35,000gns.
Haynes said: "She was a bit of a stand-out for us today. She has a great page and is a good sort, and she has the benefit of the bonus, which is a massive plus. She is for a new client."
The filly is out of the Listed winner and Group 3-placed Lady Grace (Orpen), dam of four winners including the Listed winner and 98-rated Penmaen, as well as the Listed-placed Glencadam Glory, who was rated 110.
Breath Away (Bated Breath), out of Darling Grace, a half-sister to this filly, is a Listed winner in the US and has finished third in Grade 3 Noble Damsel Stakes since the catalogue was published. (14:18)
Lot 1665: another result here for Chapel Stud – sells this colt by Sottsas, the only one by the sire in the Book 3 catalogue, to Martin Dunne Racing for 25,000gns.
The mare Koduro (Kodiac) has had one winner from one runner and is a half-ssiter to two Listed placed runners – My Lord And Master and Aura Blue. (14:11)
Lot 1652: George Peckham Racing spends 27,000gns on the Culworth Grounds Far-offered Mohaather colt. He was bred by J. Ferguson, Culworth Grounds & Partners and is out of the Rip Van Winkle mare Hyperactive, the dam of one winner from one runner.
The dam is a half-sister to Dashing Willoughby, winner of the Queen's Vase (g2) and the Henry II Stakes (G3) and it is the family of the dual Group 1 winner Speedy Boarding, and the Group 1 placed Dash To The Top, (13:43)
Lot 1617: the colt by Al Kazeem is bought by John Deer, who stands the stallion at his Chepstow-based farm Oakgrove Stud, for 65,000gns from breeder Smarden Thoroughbreds and consignor The National Stud.
Oakgrove stud manager David Hilton is at Tattersalls, on bidding duties and signed the docket and he said: "I thought this colt is a direct mix of the stallion and broodmare Sea The Stars. The mare looks good, she has had a very well-rated horse [Live Your Dream] who could have black-type. It is a lovely back pedigree and he is a particularly good physical, and we could not have a go at buying him."
Of immediate plans for the colt Hilton said:"He will go home, there is no rush, we will give him plenty of time and break him in over the winter and he will go to a trainer in the spring, and no plans on that front have been made yet."
And of Al Kazeem, who is sub-fertile and covers a small book of mares each spring, he said:"Al Kazeem is good form, he covers his small book, but his stats are very good. He does tend to throw to the mare, for instance, we have two sprinters in training by him, two full-brothers who are 110 and 105 rated and 6f horses, yet you will get a horse like this colt who will be more than likely a 1m4f runner.
"Al Kazeem is now 16 and he is a real owner-breeders' stallion, and he is a lovely horse to have around. The team and vets look after him really well and despite being sub-fertile we get the mares in-foal – he will cover around 15 mares a year and his foal crop is around 10 each year. He has numerous stakes horses running for him at the moment.
"When you think he broke a pelvis, had a stint at stud, then went back into training, it is a hell of a story really." (12:38)
Lot 1590: this Massaat filly sold by Mickley Stud is bought via the online platform by Nick Bradley Racing for 26,000gns.
Mickley Stud's Richard Kent said: "I am really pleased with that, she is a beautiful filly. It is fast family and we bought the filly from our late friend Paul Blockley, and she has made double her reserve so that is great. Her full-sister has won four races, so hopefully this filly will go on and do the same.
"The stallion is capable of getting good horses, he has four good horses in Australia, now including Docklands who is to run the weekend after this in the Cox Plate."
Of Maassat, he said: "He is in top form, and very happy at home with his two goats Barry and Gary to keep him company. They are Adam Kirby's goats – they play and fight all day long, they butt Massaat and in turn he picks them up by their horns! All harmless, good natured fun!"
Docklands, a Tattersalls December Foal Sale and Tattersalls Ireland September Sale graduate, is trained by Harry Eustace. The four-year-old has won three times, and finished second to Charyn in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at this year's Royal Ascot for owner OTI Racing. (11:40)
Lot 1557: the first colt by Bangkok offered in the Tattersalls October Sale, is bought by Sean Grassick Bloodstock for 27,000gns from Chapel Stud, which stands the Group 2-winning son of Australia.
Chapel Stud's smiling stud manager Roisin Close said: "This colt was bred by Simon Davies, who stands Bangkok. We were really keen to get the horse some sharp mares and some Flat two-year-old type mares so that the sire gets the chance to be a Flat stallion – he really deserves it as he has such quality.
"This is a beautiful colt, and he has been from Day 1. I am so pleased for Simon, he is putting so much in and, while this might not be big money in the scheme of what we have seen over the past two weeks, for a stallion who stands at £3,000 and who many do view as 'non-commercial', it is a fantastic result.
"When people viewed this colt here, they all loved him. Everyone. And the four Flat foals Simon has bred by him at Chapel are all the same with quality, are big-moving walkers and attractive. I am really delighted."
This colt is out of the eight-time winning mare Wild Flower (Approve) from the family of the seven-time and Sandown Mile (G2) winner Swallow Flight.
Of the Bangkok himself, she laughed: "He is raring to go! He would cover 200 mares if people want to send them...."
In the Somerville Sale, the sire's top price was 17,000gns given by JS Bloodstock / Andrew Balding for a colt out of the Profitable mare Money Tree sold by Susie Sands. (10:48)
Lot 1552: Amy Marnane is a great woman for seeing a sale through to its conclusion, and still here working hard she pays 32,000gns for this colt by Tasleet for MRC International.
"I have been very lucky waiting until the very end of sales and every one else has got tired and headed off, this is when horses can fall through the cracks," said Marane. "I have bought a lot of stakes horses doing this.
Of her father Con, she laughed: "Dad has long gone – he is at home admiring the fancy Too Darn Hots that we have bought to breeze! We had to give a bit of money for them, but they are real quality. We also have a real nice Pinatubo colt, hopefully, they will be lucky and, hopefully, they can gallop."
Of this colt, she said: "I am absolutely delighted to get him, he is an absolutely stunning horse. He has been bought for my uncle David Marnane's MRC International racing syndicate. They had a very good winner yesterday at The Curragh, a horse called East Hampton and I bought him here last year [Book 2, 32,000gns] – and this is a very exciting horse for next year,
"He just looks like an out and out Royal Ascot two-year-old to me, and it is those big days on the track that the syndicate wants and that is what we are going to try and get for the team."
Of course, a certain colt by Tasleet has been lucky at Royal Ascot before – Bradsell, newly announced as retiring to stand at The National Stud after his run in the Breeders' Cup Sprint on November 2, won the 2022 running of the Coventry Stakes (G2) and then the Group 1 King's Stand Stakes in 2023. Lor 1232; the very last lot through the ring certainly catches the eyes of those left in the sale ring, the flashy chestnut colt with long white stockings sells for 58,000gns bought by Mags O'Toole.
He is out of Sweet Serendipity (Stimulation), and she is an own-sister to Sweet Selection, winner of the Sagaro Stakes (G3).
He was sold by Maywood Stud, bred by Alun Douch. (20:47)
Lot 1497: the last lot to sell by the Tally-Ho Stud first-crop sire Starman at this year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale is bought by Amanda Skiffington for 75,000gns
The filly, sold by Ballyshannon Stud, is out of Summmer Stakes (G3) winner Ridge Range, the dam of two winners from three runners and a half-sister to the King's Stand Stakes (G1) winner Profitable.
The son of Dutch Art has had 43 lots sell at Tattersalls yearling sales this autumn with a top price of 260,000gns given by Al Shaqab / Amo Racing for the colt out of Moment of Truth sold by Tally-Ho in Book 1. Twelve lots by the sire have fetched six-figure prices. (19:56)
Lot 1489: the New Bay colt out of winning mare Rapture, the Pivotal half-sister to the three-time Grade 1 winner and six-time Grade 1-placed Raging Bull (Dark Angel), is bought by Blandford Bloodstock and Tradewinds at 65,000gns.
Tradewinds has only been trading at scale at Tattersalls since 2018 (just one lot sold in 2017), and this colt is Shane and Alex Power's second-most expensive purchase at Park Paddocks.
However, wearing their consigning coats, the brothers have already sold 13 horses for six-figure prices across both yearling sales and breeze-up sales in both England and Ireland with a top price so far of 370,000gns. That was gained at last year's October Book 1 Yearling Sale when they sold a colt by Teofilo to Federico Barberini.
The colt was also the most expensive Tattersalls purchase so far for the boys costing them 68,000gns at the December Foal Sale. (19:37)
Lot 1461: Madeline and Maurice Burns watched this sale of their colt by Coulsty with smiles on their faces, the colt eventually selling for 60,000gns to Harrowgate Bloodstock and providing them with a fine return on their investment of €14,000 at last year's foal sales.
Madeline ducked the questions, and diverted to her father who said: "He is a nice colt. I bought him from a good client John Nicholson, he and his father before him have bred this whole family for years.
"John always sends me mares, and I went to look at this lad as a foal – he was very late in the sale which probably helped me buy him; all we have had to do is 'polish' him up really, and that is it. He is a proper horse and his half-brother Jer Batt [BHA rated 92, won over £88,000] is a decent horse with David Barron, who has bought this colt."
Coulsty stands at the Burns family's Rathasker Stud, and Burns said: "Coulsty is in good form. He started with small numbers, he has picked it up through his career, he has had some valuable race winners, and for a €5,000 investment he is paying a lot of people and he has a lot of happy breeders."
The farm also sold Lot 1453, a homebred colt by the stud's fellow stalwart stallion Bungle Inthejungle. The bay April-born colt fetched 50,000gns, was bought by Oliver St Lawrence and is out of the Shamardal mare Nafa, who is the model of consistency.
She has had five foals (two 'Bungle' full-brothers to this yearling), five runners and four winners. The only one to have missed so far is this year's two-year-old Facoulty. She has, though, been placed twice finishing a length second last time out. She runs tomorrow in a 5f nursery at Newcastle, and is currently joint-favourite.
The quintet are rated 63, 93, 80, 84 and 100 – the highest-rated is the Bedford Fox, who has won six races, over £89,000 in prize-money and picked up a Listed fourth-place in the Listed Hever Sprint Stakes. (18:44)
Lot 1437: "I have been underbidder on a lot of horses over the last two weeks!" said Tom Goff, signing under Blandford Bloodstock, after successfully purchasing this February-born colt by Ghaiyyath for 75,000gns, the colt sold by Houghton Bloodstock.
Goff further outlined his thoughts on this year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
"There has been some extraordinary activity in this sale ring in the last two weeks," he said, adding: "It has just been really extraordinary. It has been the strongest sale I have been to since Keeneland 2006."
"But this week it shows just how remarkable the UK, Irish and European bloodstock industry is. Buying horses is all about buying a dream and this industry is very good about selling a dream."
Of this colt's purchase, he added: "He will be trained in Newmarket, he is a lovely staying horse, he is from a smashing Juddmonte family. I looked at 75 horses yesterday and I just thought he is a gorgeous horse." (17:47)
Lot 1412: Love Baileys, the Garswood half-sister to Bahia Breeze, winner of the Pipalong Stakes, a Group 2 runner-up in the Sandown Mile, BHA rated 111 and dam of the Ridgewood Pearl Stakes (G2) winner Beshaayir, is the Petches Farm homebred dam of this Iffraaj filly, bought by Amy Murphy Racing for 62,000gns. (17:16)
Lot 1392: the Inns Of Court half-brother to the Listed winner and Richmond Stakes (G2) runner-up Ballymount Boy is another Alex Elliott purchase, the agent going to 85,000gns for the Hillwood Stud-consigned February-born colt. The colt was pinhooked last autumn for €44,000.
Dam Kasala (Footstepsinthesand), who was covered by Good Guess, has had four winners from five runners and seven foals, and is a half-sister to Precious Boy, a Group 2 winner of the Mehl-Mulhens Rennen, the Grosse Europa Melle (G2), the Preis des Winterfavoriten (G3) and a runner-up in the Grosser Dallmayr Bayerisches Zuchtrennen (G1). (17:03)
Lot 1390: another Havana Grey gets the buyers, especially the breeze up purchasers active and it is Norman Williamson who was successful at 90,000gns. The colt was consigned by Josh Cameron's Daymark Stud.
"I sold the Havana Grey filly at this year's Craven Sale with Katie [Arabian Dusk], the sire is doing fantastic, but this fella I thought is the best colt here today,"said Wiliamson. "He has a pedigree there that you would love, he has great balance and am very pleased to get him, let's hope he is lucky."
Of purchasing breeze-up prospects over the last two weeks, Williamson reviewed: "It has been very tough, but I have bought one in Book 1, one in Book 2 and now one in Book 3. It is great to see such good trade, there has been a great bunch of horses here." (16:02)
