Group 1 Sun Chariot Winner Tamfana to Sell at Tattersalls December Mares Sale

Tamfana defeated an outstanding field in the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes by two lengths

Quantum Leap Racing’s brilliant Sun Chariot Stakes winner TAMFANA is to be offered in the Sceptre Sessions at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale which will take place from 1st – 4th December. Trained by David Menuisier, TAMFANA was a Group winner at two and twice Classic placed at three before her dominant success at the highest level in the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes.

TAMFANA first demonstrated that she was a filly out of the ordinary at two when breaking her maiden by an effortless nine and a half lengths at Kempton, before winning the Group 3 Prix Miesque at Chantilly.

She came within a length of Classic victory at Newmarket when flying home for fourth in an exceptional renewal of the 1000 Guineas which now comprises seven individual Group 1 winners. Unfortunate to have been stopped in her run at a crucial moment that day, she went on to an even narrower defeat in the French Oaks when third beaten just three quarters of a length.

TAMFANA was fourth against the colts in a high-class renewal of the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris over a mile and a half, before gaining an overdue first success at the highest level when defeating an outstanding field in Newmarket’s Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes by two lengths with six-time Group 1 winner and dual Sun Chariot winner INSPIRAL in second. Also behind her were the three-time Group 1 winner NASHWA, five-times Group 1 placed SEE THE FIRE and 1000 Guineas winner ELMALKA.

A daughter of three-time German Champion Sire and Champion broodmare sire SOLDIER HOLLOW, whose daughters have produced Group 1 winners across the globe, TAMFANA is out of the ZOFFANY mare TRES MAGNIFIQUE, whose dam TICANA is an own-sister to the dual Listed winner and Group 2 runner up TIMOS and a half-sister to Grade 1 Beverley D Stakes winner and multiple Group and Grade 1 placed filly SEA CALISI.

TAMFANA’s two-year-old half sister THE PALACE GIRL sold for 1,550,000 guineas at the 2024 Tattersalls December Mares Sale to Woodford Thoroughbreds, and TRES MAGNIFIQUE is currently in foal to the peerless FRANKEL.

TAMFANA will look to add to her Group 1 tally in the Group 1 Prix de L’Opera at ParisLonchamp this Sunday on ‘Arc’ day.

Tamfana with David Menuisier & Quantum Leap Racing after her Sun Chariot Stakes victory

Quantum Leap Racing’s founder and Chairman Eamonn O’Connor commented:

“Tamfana has been a horse of a lifetime for us. We campaigned her bravely and she showed just how versatile and tough she was at every distance from a mile to 12 furlongs. Her temperament in a race is incredible, tractable and willing to please. There are always mixed emotions when selling a horse of this quality, who has given the syndicate so many memories, but if we are to sell her, there is no better place than the Sceptre Sessions at Tattersalls December Mares Sale.”

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;

“Tamfana’s emphatic victory in the Sun Chariot Stakes and her narrow defeats in two Classics demonstrate that she is a racemare of the very highest quality, and she has shown extraordinary versatility in addition to her abundant talent. It is an honour and a pleasure to be asked to offer a filly of her calibre at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale and there is absolutely no doubt that she will be one of the highlights of this year’s Sceptre Sessions.”
