Changes to Catalogue Starting Letters for Tattersalls Group

Following the initial announcement regarding the harmonisation of starting letters in late 2025, a change in position by one of the original sales companies has necessitated a revision to the Tattersalls Group’s starting letters for 2026.

Tattersalls sales in Newmarket which are catalogued alphabetically, either by lot name or dam name, will remain on F, apart from the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale which will revert to its unique starting letter of K.

Tattersalls Ireland will also revert to using the starting letter P for all flat sales at Fairyhouse but will use the starting letter F for all National Hunt sales.

The starting letter for each sale will advance by five letters each year, with X, Y and Z being counted as one letter. The starting letters for the next three years will be as follows:

Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Breeze Up Sales & Tattersalls Ireland National Hunt Sales:

2026 – F
2027 – K
2028 – P

Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale:

2026 – K
2027 – P
2028 – U

Tattersalls Ireland Flat Sales:

2026 – P
2027 – U
2028 – B

The next sale to be held at Tattersalls is the Tattersalls February Sale which will take place from Thursday 5th – Friday 6th February which comprises 307 horses in/out of training, broodmares, yearlings and two-year-olds, including consignments from leading owner-breeders Godolphin, Juddmonte and Shadwell Estate Company.

The sale will also feature the popular Tattersalls British EBF Stallion Parade & RoR Showcase which will commence at 11am before the start of the sale on Thursday 5th February. The Tattersalls February Sale will commence immediately after the Stallion Parade on Thursday 5th February and at 10.00am on Friday 6th February.
