The Aidan O’Brien-trained DOUGLAS MACARTHUR lived up to his pedigree and sale price when taking out the Frank Conroy EBF Maiden at Leopardstown last night. The son of GALILEO out of the GREEN DESERT mare ALLURING PARK is a full-brother to the Group 1 Oaks winner WAS and out of a sister to the Group 1 Derby winner NEW APPROACH. In winning his maiden for owners Markus Jooste, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs Sue Magnier DOUGLAS MACARTHUR collected €49,489 made up of a £25,000 October ‘Book 1 Bonus’, prizemoney of €10,147 and a Plus 10 Bonus of €9,375.
DOUGLAS MACARTHUR was bought at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 1,250,000 guineas by MV Magnier from the draft of Lodge Park Stud. His victory propelled him to the top of betting for the 2017 Derby with prices as short as 12/1.
