2010 December Mare Sale Day 3 Press Release

LOT 1891: QUELLE AMORE
LOT 1891: QUELLE AMORE

QUELLE AMORE and SHAMWARI LODGE shared top billing on the third day of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale at 300,000 guineas apiece, as trade continued in strong fashion, albeit without the fireworks that frequented the second day. The third session saw a total of 174 lots sell for 5,563,000 guineas, at an average of 31,971 guineas and a median of 16,000 guineas, figures that were slightly down on the corresponding session in 2009.

The first lot to sell for 300,000 guineas was the Group 2 winning mare QUELLE AMORE who was knocked down to Northern Farms’ representative Fumihiko Nakajima after he saw off agent Grant Pritchard Gordon of Badgers Bloodstock and Irish breeder Paddy Twomey. Consigned from Andreas Jacobs’ Newsells Park Stud, the seven-year-old daughter of MONSUN was offered in foal to DUBAWI, the leading second season stallion in Europe this year.

Later in the evening Kern Lillingston’s Ed Sackville also went to 300,000 guineas to secure the Group winning four-year-old filly SHAMWARI LODGE. The six-time winning daughter of the REVOQUE mare RIPALONG, herself a half-sister to the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup winner PIPALONG, was purchased by Sackville after he saw off the determined Eishin Farms trio from Japan. Sackville purchased the Barnane Stud consigned and Andrew Russell owned daughter of HAWK WING on behalf of Ronan Burns of Lodge Park Stud and commented;

"She was an exceptionally tough racing filly and that was what we particularly liked.

"She also scoped exceptionally well with a grade 1 result. She has been bought as a breeding prospect."

The GALILEO filly APPEARANCE was the first filly of the keenly anticipated consignment from Prince Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms and also proved the most popular after being knocked down to Newmarket trainer Luca Cumani for 280,000 guineas after he saw off BBA Ireland’s Eamonn Reilly. The daughter of the Group 3 winner APOGEE is a sister to the four Group/Listed winners including the Group 2 Prix de Royallieu winner DANCE ROUTINE.

"She has been bought for a client and I am delighted to buy this filly," commented Cumani.

"She is very classy, and the rest of the family is in excellent hands. She will be mated to DUBAWI."

The 31 fillies sold from the Juddmonte Farms consignment realised a total of 1,123,000 guineas.
