2014/15 Tattersalls Millions Race Series Begins

Toofi winning the 2013 £100,000 Tattersalls Millions Median Auction Trophy

The £1.3 million Tattersalls Millions, Europe’s most valuable sales race series, begins again this Saturday with the £100,000 Tattersalls Millions Fillies’ Median Auction Stakes at Newmarket. A total of eight horses have been declared for the 6 furlong race, including Supreme Occasion. Nine two-year-olds have been declared for the other Tattersalls Millions race of the day, the £100,000 Tattersalls Millions Median Auction Trophy, including Ballymore Castle, Secret Belief and Bossy Guest.

Supreme Occasion is a notable runner for David O’Meara in the fillies’ race with good form behind her having only narrowly missed out on gaining Black Type last time out in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes last week. Another interesting contender is Phoibe for German trainer Peter Schiergen who was second on her first and only start at Munich last month.

Mark Johnston has a strong hand again this year in The £100,000 Tattersalls Millions Median Auction Trophy with three runners in the race including Secret Belief, who won last time out. Other notable runners include the Mick Channon trained Bossy Guest, who was second in the Listed Ripon Champion two-year-olds Trophy on his last outing and Richard Fahey’s Ballymore Castle who won his maiden and went on to be second in the Listed Woodcote Stakes at Epsom in June.

Richard Fahey, commented; “Ballymore Castle has been going really well at home. He might not be quite good enough on ratings but he really needs a run and there is some very good prize money on offer. I also have Lacing in the fillies’ race who has been a little bit disappointing but we really like her and hope she will run well.”

Those declared in the two contests cover a full spectrum of prices from the 270,000gns purchase Hundi, through to Supreme Occasion, who was purchased for 35,000 guineas.

There are two more races scheduled this year in the £1.3 million Tattersalls Millions series, both of which take place at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile on Saturday 4 October, with £800,000 prize money on offer.

Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, featuring the only yearlings eligible for next year’s £1.3 million Tattersalls Millions series takes place from 7 – 9 October.
