Breeders’ Cup Winner Balantina to be Offered at Tattersalls December Mares Sale

Last year’s Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner BALANTINA is to be offered at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale. She joins a star-studded group of fillies and mares that have already been announced for the Sceptre Sessions which showcases the finest fillies and mares in Europe.

Balantina wins the Gr. 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar Racecourse

The Donnacha O’Brien trained daughter of NO NAY NEVER stallion TEN SOVEREIGNS had been placed in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot behind VENETIAN SUN prior to her Del Mar victory. This year, as a three-year-old she finished third on her latest start in the Group 1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes behind multiple Group 1 winners BLUE BOLT and PRECISE.

BALANTINA is a beautifully bred filly from a deep Aga Khan family. She is out of the MONTJEU mare BALANKIYLA who is also the dam of the Group 3 Prix de Royaumont winner BAIYKARA and a half-sister to the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes winner BAYRIR. BALANKIYLA’s granddam is the Listed winner BALANKA who was also placed in the Group 2 Prix de l’Opera.

BALANTINA will be offered at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale by Taylor Made Sales Agency who make a welcome return to Park Paddocks following the sale of PORTA FORTUNA last year for 4,500,000 guineas. Their exciting draft also includes the Group 3 winning and Group 1 placed ATSILA and the Listed Marygate Stakes winner SECRET HIDEAWAY, a sister to this year’s Group 1 Morny Stakes second CARRY THE FLAG.

Taylor Made Sales’ Mark Taylor commented:

“Balantina capped off an outstanding two-year-old season with a dominant victory in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. She showed she was right there with Europe’s best three-year-old fillies when finishing third in the Group 1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes, only behind Blue Bolt and Precise. She is an outstanding physical hailing from a deep Aga Khan pedigree and we think she is an exciting prospect for both breeders and racing stables, who may want to run her in 2027.”

Tattersalls Managing Director Matthew Prior added:

“Balantina is an exciting addition to what promises to be another outstanding renewal of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale. We are delighted to welcome the Taylor Made team back to Park Paddocks with another outstanding draft, following the phenomenal sale of Porta Fortuna last year.

“The Sceptre Sessions were established to showcase exceptional fillies such as Balantina, and we look forward to presenting her to the leading names from across the global bloodstock industry who gather at Park Paddocks each December.

“The quality and depth of fillies and mares heading to the Sceptre Sessions continues to build, and we are very much looking forward to another exceptional renewal of Europe’s premier breeding stock sale.”
