502 Yearlings Catalogued for Europe’s Premier Yearling Sale  

The catalogue for Book 1 of the 2021 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, which takes place Tuesday 5th to Thursday 7th October, is now online and can be viewed at www.tattersalls.com. Europe’s premier yearling sale numbers 502 lots, all of which are eligible for the lucrative £20,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus scheme which has paid out more than £6,000,000 in bonus prize money to 243 individual winners since its inception in 2016.  

The flagship Tattersalls yearling sale has attracted a truly outstanding collection of the finest yearlings to be found anywhere in the world, including 20 yearlings by DUBAWI, 24 by FRANKEL, 43 by KINGMAN, 44 by LOPE DE VEGA, 34 by SEA THE STARS and 14 by the late twelve-time European Champion sire GALILEO.  

In addition, the catalogue features own or half-brothers and sisters to a remarkable 47 Classic and Group 1 winners and 248 Group/Listed winners. Amongst the siblings to Classic and Group 1 winners are own or half-brothers to global stars of recent years including ADVERTISE, AUNT PEARL, BATTAASH, BLUE POINT, GHAIYYATH, PALACE PIER, PRETTY GORGEOUS, SNOW LANTERN, SOVEREIGN and SUBJECTIVIST.  

The catalogue also features own or half-sisters to Classic and Group 1 winners ACLAIM, BEAUTY PARLOUR, BOLSHOI BALLET, BROOME, CURSORY GLANCE, GOLDEN HORDE, LINE OF DUTY, SHALAA, WALDGEIST, and the current 2,000 Guineas and Epsom Derby favourite POINT LONSDALE.  

An impressive 21 Group 1 winning mares have yearlings catalogued including Classic winners NIGHTIME and SKY LANTERN, both of whom have produced Group 1 winners and both of whom have colts by KINGMAN. Two further Classic winners in ATTRACTION and MISS FRANCE have yearlings catalogued by DUBAWI and GALILEO respectively, and European Champion DANEDREAM has a yearling filly by KINGMAN. Outstanding racemares PERSUASIVE, THE FUGUE and VORDA will be represented by colts by FRANKEL, SHAMARDAL and SIYOUNI respectively.    

Over a third of the yearlings catalogued are by the current leading seven sires standing in Europe, with the top ten sires standing in the UK and Ireland responsible for over half of the catalogue including DARK ANGEL, ZOFFANY, AUSTRALIA, NO NAY NEVER and KODIAC who have 89 yearlings catalogued between them.  

Among the 14 yearlings by GALILEO are an own sister to Grade 1 winner LINE OF DUTY and half-brothers to the Group 1 winners TOORMORE, GLORIOUS FOREVER and TIME WARP. DUBAWI, sire of the October Book 1 sale toppers in 2018 and 2019, has an eye-catching collection of 20 yearlings including half-siblings to multiple Group 1 winners WALDGEIST and RIZEENA and the first foal out of Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner URBAN FOX.  

Juddmonte Farm’s remarkable young stallions FRANKEL and KINGMAN have 67 yearlings catalogued between them with FRANKEL represented by own or half-brothers to Group/Grade 1 winners BLUE POINT, WITHOUT PAROLE and TAMARKUZ and colts out Group/Grade 1 winners CURSORY GLANCE, PERSUASIVE and SOPHIE P. KINGMAN boasts an equally impressive line-up with siblings to Classic and Group 1 winners ACLAIM, BEAUTY PARLOUR, MAAREK and SNOW LANTERN and yearlings out of Group 1 winner SPEEDY BOARDING as well as the aforementioned DANEDREAM, NIGHTIME and SKY LANTERN.  

Devotees of first season sires will be spoilt for choice with 12 freshmen represented including Classic and Group 1 winners CRACKSMAN, EXPERT EYE, HARRY ANGEL, ROARING LION, SAXON WARRIOR, SIOUX NATION, U S NAVY FLAG and a stellar USA-based contingent of CITY OF LIGHT, GOOD MAGIC, JUSTIFY and MENDELSSOHN.  

Overseas based sires traditionally play a significant role at Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale and leading French-based sires LE HAVRE and SIYOUNI feature prominently alongside proven Group/Grade 1 USA-based sires AMERICAN PHAROAH, CANDY RIDE and SPEIGHTSTOWN. Further international interest is added by the Champion Australian sire ZOUSTAR who is represented by his first crop of northern hemisphere-bred yearlings.  

The largest draft comes from last year’s sale topping consignor Newsells Park Stud who will offer an outstanding team of 30 yearlings, followed by The Castlebridge Consignment with 29 and Highclere Stud with 23 lots catalogued.

ELIGIBILTY:

Any lot offered for sale in Book 1 of the 2021 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale which is sold, bought in or unsold.  

Any lot withdrawn from Book 1 of the 2021 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale which is subsequently offered for sale at the 2021 Tattersalls December Yearling Sale and sold, bought in or unsold. The full 5% commission is payable on the reserve price, where the lot failed to meet its reserve, or the price at which the lot was bought in by the vendor.  

ENTRY FEE:

£1,700 payable to Tattersalls by March 1st, 2022.

QUALIFYING RACES:

Any Class 2, 3 or 4 two-year-old Maiden or Novice race run in the UK under BHA rules between 26th March 2022 and 5th November 2022. Any ‘Open’ two-year-old Maiden race run in Ireland or Northern Ireland (excluding Auction Maidens, Median Auction Maidens, Nursery & Winners races) under HRI rules between 26th March 2022 and 6th November 2022.
