Godolphin’s Renaissance Lady Tops Opening Day of the Tattersalls July Sale

The Tattersalls July Sale got off to a pleasing start with Godolphin’s well-bred fillies and mares commanding strong prices in the ring. The opening day saw turnover increase by 12% from last year’s respective session and the average also rose by 34%.

Lot 228: Renaissance Lady (GB)

Godolphin’s Renaissance Lady Tops the Day to Ace Stud

The beautifully bred RENAISSANCE LADY was bought online for 500,000 guineas by Ace Stud to add to their esteemed broodmare band. Tally-Ho Stud was the underbidder on the unraced three-year-old daughter of PINATUBO.

Bred in the purple by the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, RENAISSANCE LADY hails from one of the best families in the stud book being a daughter of the blue hen mare REEM THREE. She is a half-sister to two Group 1 winners, TRIPLE TIME and AJMAN PRINCESS, who is also the dam of Group 1 Commonwealth Cup winner INISHERIN. RENAISSANCE LADY is also a half-sister to ROSALINE, dam of the European Champion Three-Year-Old Miler ROSALLION.

Other black type relatives in her immediate family include the Group 2 winner OSTILIO, the Group 3 winner CAPE BYRON and the Listed winners THIRD REALM and CAPTAIN WINTERS.

Ace Stud’s Paul Curran remarked:

“Renaissance Lady is exactly what we’re looking for and is something of a collector’s item. Pedigrees like this are just so hard to buy and they don’t come onto the market very often.

“We’ll bring her back to the farm and make a decision for next year”, Curran elaborated. “We could go back to Frankel obviously, or stay and go closer into the Shamardal line with a stallion such as Blue Point. We can go any which way, she is a good one.”

Lot 198: Wild Angel (GB)

Wild Angel Another Bound for Ace Stud

WILD ANGEL was the second lot in the ring from this afternoon’s Godolphin draft and she duly delivered on the hype when selling for 400,000 guineas. She was the second online purchase by Ace Stud alongside the day one sale topper.

The winning four-year-old mare is by TOO DARN HOT and she was offered carrying her first pregnancy to PINATUBO. WILD ANGEL hails from one of Godolphin’s finest families, being a three-quarters sister to the three-time Group 1 winner SPACE BLUES and a half-sister to the Group 2 winner SHURUQ, dam of the Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed ANTOINETTE.

Buying WILD ANGEL in-foal to PINATUBO and RENAISSANCE LADY, who is by PINATUBO, Ace Stud’s Paul Curran laughed:

“We have probably two of the best fillies/mares connected to Pinatubo, with Wild Angel in foal to him and Renaissance Lady being probably one of his best pedigreed daughters!”

Lot 222: Enchanted Queen (GB)

Clacton Thoroughbreds Strikes for Enchanted Queen

The thrice-placed three-year-old filly ENCHANTED QUEEN was bought by Clacton Thoroughbreds for 180,000 guineas from Godolphin.

The daughter of GHAIYYATH is out of the SHAMARDAL mare MORGAN LE FAYE, who won the Group 2 Prix Corrida and was Group 1 placed in the Prix Royal-Oak.

ENCHANTED QUEEN’s immediate family looks well placed to receive future updates, with the filly’s half-sister AVALON QUEEN placing since the catalogue was printed and two younger siblings by DUBAWI.

Lot 227: Verse Of Love (GB)

Verse Of Love is Secured by Morrin

VERSE OF LOVE was yet another highly sought after filly consigned by Godolphin and Pier House Stud’s Ger Morrin was the successful bidder at 180,000 guineas, signing as Kelly Equine. The daughter of SIYOUNI was a winner of two races and rated 92 on the track.

She is out of the young mare VERCELLI and is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner and Australian Champion Miler AVILIUS.

“I’m delighted to get the filly,” remarked Morrin. “I remember when she was in training, she looked very promising. She was in the betting for the Guineas actually at one stage, and I love her sire Siyouni. She is out of a Shamardal mare and is very good looking as well.”

He added: “We’ve always been lucky here, so hopefully it continues.”

The Tattersalls July Sale continues at 10.00am on Wednesday, 8th July.
