The Anthony and Sam Freedman trained WITHOUT A FIGHT provided a timely reminder of the quality and value to be found at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale when winning the $8,400,000 Melbourne Cup to become only the 12th horse to complete the Caulfield & Melbourne Cup double.  The son of TEOFILO, who is owned and bred by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum, was trained in the UK by Simon & Ed Crisford before joining the Freedman team following his unplaced run in last year’s Melbourne Cup.

WITHOUT A FIGHT is out of the Group winning DUBAWI mare KHOR SHEED who was sold at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale for 26,000 guineas by Godolphin to Harry Dutfield. KHOR SHEED, winner of the Group 3 Premio Sergio Cumani when trained by Luca Cumani, was initially purchased at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for just 42,000 guineas.

The progeny of mares purchased at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale have won 34 Gr.1 races worldwide in 2023 and include 2,000 Guineas winner CHALDEAN, whose dam was purchased for 21,500 guineas, French Classic winner BLUE ROSE CEN, whose dam was purchased for 110,000 guineas and recent Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner UNQUESTIONABLE, whose dam was a 52,000 guineas acquisition.
